So today I have managed to sew up the blocks for week 3, 4 and 5. I got them cut last night and will put the pics up now. I even let DD sew a little bit of one of them. She was well chuffed :) as was I, until I sat down and couldn't find the pedal and realised the machine was way too close. She's too short!
    Here's the pics then....
    Week 3
    th_SAM_0459.jpg

I like this block. It wasn't too hard to sew together and when I measured it, it was almost 12.5". Yay me!

    Week 4
    th_SAM_0460.jpg

The black on this was a last minute colour change as the other pattern I had was the same colours but a different design to the one you see here now. I didn't think that they would show against each other enough so had a rummage and decided on this. I was totally unsure of this all along but now it's stitched together, I actually like it a lot. It has a bit of a wow factor. This square came up at 12.5"- woohoo :D

Now this block is very pretty. It is really hard work though and somewhere in sewing it up, It's got a little skewiff. I don't know whether or not to unpick it, I think it will go wonky again if I do and I'm fairly sure that once it has borders addedd to it and it is quilted, it'll look fine. It's just a little wrinkled where it's all fighting against itself (IYSWIM?). You can almost see how late it was when I was cutting this one out because the instructions said to cut out more of the dark patterns than the light but I misread it and did too many dark ones. Now it's together, I don't think it's lost anything from that, I'm fairly sure that you can still see it all well enough despite the backwardness of it.

Right, off to grab a coffee before I head off to work. I've got 4 nights on now, so don't know how much time I'll have for stitching over the coming days. Hopefully I'll at least get some blocks cut up ready to go.

had you broken a needle or anything prior to this happening? maybe you have a bit of needle somewhere causing the problem.

i also thought maybe a bent needle but you say you have changed it, so am stuck but i am sure someone will be along to help you soon.

Yip done all that, the original needle was still perfect :o i changed it though and took out the spool holder the holder that holds that and the other bit, brushed all the insides, oiled it, gave it a good dust and replaced everything. Before i put the spool holder in i tried it and the needle moves up and down perfectly.
As soon as i pop the spool holder in and try the peddle the needle goes down but doesn't come back out. (until i pop the spool holder back out)
It's as though it's not put in right but i know it is because theres only one way for it to go and it clicks if that makes sense? Instead of sewing freely it gets jammed on the metal of the spool holder

It's been working perfectly until now aswell i am more than a little bit gutted. Have freegled and freecycled but in all honesty my freecycle/freegle sites are very giving lol. xx (but taking they definately are :rotfl::rotfl:) x

Ginger, have you checked the bobbin inside the spool holder? I remember being told that if they're cracked or chipped or warped, it can upset your machine. I'm a newbie, so that's about all I can think of!

On another note, the knowledgable lady in the fabric shop today told me that if I'm sewing the vinyl (I think it's called vinyl anyway - shiny waterproof stuff) then to put a piece of greaseproof paper on the shiny side, sew through it and then rip the paper off. She said that it stops it sticking to the machine as it's going through.

She also said that a strong needle or a denim needle are good ones to use. She didn't mention any others, but that's only because I specifically mentioned denim needles as I have some.

Kaz - you are doing so well with your blocks I really like the bottom one, it looks very intricate. Cant wait to see them all together.

I have finished the quilt I was making using up the scraps. It is really brightly coloured (pics on my blog). I am starting to save up another lot now for another one.

Ginger - did you try winding a different bobbin? May be the one you have has a knot in it somewhere or something or might not be wound properly. Mine sometimes dont wind properly as now and then the thread comes out of the tension thing and I dont see it happen and carry on winding it up then find its gone loopy.

Otherwise try googling the problem and see if anyone has put it on a different forum or something.

Hi chocolate truffle and welcome to the thread!

If you google free fabric samples you should get quite a few come up. I've had them from a few different places in the past but they vary in size quite a lot.

    Hi
The Home Bargains at abbeycentre is across from the centre in the retail park where TK Maxx, Matalan is, it is beside the Mothercare store.

The one in carrick is in the small shopping centre where iceland and new look is, sorry can't remember the name of the centre, I would say the abbeycentre one is slightly bigger but I find the carrick one has sometimes more as maybe not as busy as the abbey one.
