MissPixie, your sewing bag looks great! You could never have bought one with all the features that you wanted.
To make the base firmer could you cut strong cardboard or something to size and cover it in the lining fabric and just lay it in?
Rufusdog the quilt for your Dad looks lovely, I'm sure he'll love it. Is it a surprise?
Clairewop, how big is the cutting mat?0 -

Thanks Georgia, when I put my embroidery boxes in it the shape is held out much better so it will do I don't actually carry it around that much it will be for taking my sewing stuff to OH parents which is 3 hours away so I needed a bigger bag because the old bag was too small.
I love that fabric!Getting married Wednesday 24th August 2011!

PootleFlump wrote: »Hi Rufus, I used oilcloth to make these. Best thing to do is either get a teflon foot (you can normally pick one up on ebay for about £4) or get some scotch tape or masking tape and stick it to the underside of your sewing foot (doesnt work as well but works). You can use binding if you prefer or just topstitch as normal. Vinyl is thinner than oilcloth so it should be a bit easier to get through the machine. My tote bag is oilcloth but its lined with vinyl from Dunhelm and worked fine through the machine - you do sometimes have to put a bit of pressure on it to push it through. Would check what needle size you using too as it needs to be a bit bigger than if you were just sewing cotton.
Well done on selling your first item! Im in the process of setting up a shop and a facebook page but am a bit scared at the idea of putting anything up for sale incase people hate it!! At what point do you tell HMRC? Im assuming I need to do it right away but not sure.....
Hi Pootleflump *waves*

I *hope* I manage to get in all the replies I wanted to!
Hi there everyone, busy (ish) day for me today. I've not managed to get any stitching done but I have cut up the next 3 blocks for the quilt along. It is sitting there ready for me to try and sew together tomorrow. I may have made a boob with week 5's block because I have done too many of the dark pattern and only one of the lighter pattern but I hope it'll still work out ok.
Miss Pixie, I left a comment on your blog, fab labels and a fab bag. Well done.
Rufus, I love the quilt, it must have been a real labour of love and I love that the colour's not too girly. I tried to comment on your blog but it wouldn't let me.
irishgirl, wow to that fabric, it's gurt lush!
I got my cutting mat from ebay. I think it was £7.50 for an A2 mat. It's self healing both sides. It's marked in cm not inches which can be a little annoying. I'm finding it less of a problem now that I've made card squares in the sizes which I don't have acrylic shapes for. I'm still using the metal ruler as a cutting guide when I'm not using the side of the 12.5" acrylic square. I also find it useful to put the mat underneath my sewing machine when I have it on the table as I'm worried about marking the table. It does make the machine difficult to move but that can be a plus point as I found it was skipping around somewhat when I got up speed on one of the projects I was doing!
Mandymoo, I just had a thought, If you are finding it hard to fit your quilt through the machine, how about doing lines around the edges of your quilt as far as you can and then hand quilting in the middle of it? That may be easier for you. Thinking ahead for my next project, I may decide to quilt as I go so that I am then just joining together lots of quilted squares.
DD had an inset day today. We had a fair amount planned but ended up doing none of it. She sat and watched a film at 12 until we went to fetch DS from school. She did some lovely little water colour flowers this morning while I was busy and I must say, she's coming along nicely. I sat down after doing the ironing and had a look at the squares for the first quilt along done by crazymomquilts. DD likes the blocks and she said I should use them instead of the setting blocks on the star quilt along. I'm not sure, I keep toying with the idea.
We went to dunelm this afternoon to look for some fabric but there wasn't really anything there. It's very hard to pick out what you're after I find. Ran into BiL's family too in the fabric section- how odd!
All in all, a nice relaxing day for DD who has just finished her SATS. Will have to do something for DS as he has just finished SATS which his school didn't even tell us he was doing until a letter today. Rant diverted, that's another story for another day.
Will try to upload any pics tomorrow if I am able to stitch any squares together.
