thanks sue....but i tried that and its still too massive!! looks like my first attempt at a quilted throw has to look like a padded blanket instead lol!!

what about just quilting around the 4 sides you must be able to get the sides under at least 6 inchs just do a few lines working from the outside edge inwards all round

Georgia - yes its a surprise for his birthday. I will say its from everybody. We usually have a party on his birthday at my bro's house with all the family over. It has taken me about three months in all to make.

OH is on nights yet again all weekend so cant get up to my machine. I get withdrawal symptoms lol. I have had a look at the other quilt I am doing with the machine quilting and its not as bad as I thought it was so straightened up all the raw edges last night, need to see if I can find time this evening to run some binding around it.

I have four more cushions that need finishing off too when I can get up there for a good stint.

MissPixie, your sewing bag looks great! You could never have bought one with all the features that you wanted.
To make the base firmer could you cut strong cardboard or something to size and cover it in the lining fabric and just lay it in?

Rufusdog the quilt for your Dad looks lovely, I'm sure he'll love it. Is it a surprise?

Clairewop, how big is the cutting mat?

It is A3, big enough for me at the moment.
took a mini heart attack when I saw this fabric I so want it!! nogutsnoglory.jpg

wow love that material. would make some fab bags.

had you broken a needle or anything prior to this happening? maybe you have a bit of needle somewhere causing the problem.

i also thought maybe a bent needle but you say you have changed it, so am stuck but i am sure someone will be along to help you soon.

I haven't been on this thread for ages and think I may have some serious catching up to do :)

But in the meantime any ideas where I could find a sewing pattern for a babies changing mat?

    Thanks

The sewing machine trouble sounds like what I was having but I stripped mine down and did what you've done a couple of times and then it worked again. Have you got a paint brush which you can have a good old rummage around with to try and clear any bits of lint etc?
That's the only other thing I can think of. I really hope you manage to get it sorted. If not, anyone nearby who you can send out an emergency plea to to borrow a sewing machine tonight? I'd lend you mine but I'm the wrong end of the island for you :(
