I am looking for my first sewing machine.
I would like to make things using recycled materials like jeans so the machine needs to handle denim.
My sister is pregnant with her first baby and I would love to make a cot quilt and decorate plain baby gros with patches etc..
I have seen the singer 4220 on a couple of websites for £149 but the companies don't get good reviews and in argos its nearly £200!
Has anyone got this machine? Will it cope with the denim?
It looks nice and simple to use. Ideally my budget is around £150 Thanks for your advice.

create and craft tv have a singer in their website for 119.00 a little less featured than the one you have asked about but it does have a needle threader which apparently is not available on this same machine else where so they say.

but they also have a pick of the day tonight at 9pm for a sewing machine but i dont know how much or what model.

i bought this one from this site and love it cannot rememebr how much i paid though as had it nearly a year now

hi i know someone on here posted a us seller for fabric recently but who sells nice fabric in the uk thats reasonable please.

ebay is endless and takes me forever to look through, any sellers that anyone can reccomend.

i dont want loads just a few nice pieces or some unusual fabric like the rock one shown maybei never seem to see anything like that

I added a fantastic list of UK online fabric stores that I found to the "sewing room no chat thread". It is bookmarked on my Internet explorer page and I am on firefox, so cant repost it atm. Let me know if you dont find it as the no chat thread doesnt get "bumped" often enough to stay on first page.

OK i have managed to find it for everyone else...

Does anyone have any suggestion for easy day dress patterns? I quite like the idea of a maxi dress but I am so fussy when it comes to clothes it is hard to find a pattern I like. I really shouldn't be adding to my to do list but I want to make a dress!
i found this maxi dress really easy to do no zips just elastic made five of them two for myself and three for my DDs i did the view c one.

What do you class as a day dress?

Anything that isn't massively full! I have already made lots of full skirts anything else like that and I will look permanently over dressed lol. I was thinking maybe sun dress type things because they look easy enough if I could get a good pattern

Thanks irishgirl (sharon?) do you have a name or link :)

Oh and by easy I mean not too complicated pieces etc I am getting quite good at zips and elastic so I think I could manage that. *is impressed with self* :P

    thanks for your suggestions hmo
It was the company you have hyperlinked that has bad reviews for customer services when you google it the owner accused one customer of scamming when they entered their work address for delivery instead of their home address even though it was an option. He ranted at them over the phone. I will look at the other model somewhere else though. I'm in Sandwell in the West Midlands if anyone knows a good shop?

I got my machine from sewing machines direct and they were very good and gave me lots of freebies with it which are always welcome! :)

Thanks for the links Sharon :)
