How about this? http://www.sewdirect.com/acatalog/Vogue___8020.html
I've just looked this up on vogue.com, and it's Easy rather than Very Easy, which can sometimes mean something sneaky waiting to bite you.
In the vogue.com sale I bought a Marcy Tilton shirt with pockets integrated into a peplum, and couldn't wait to open the envelope to see how they'd made it Easy. The answer was that they haven't - it looks like advanced origami!0 -
wendym, I just had to look up what a peplum was! I'm so ignorant of sewing terms
.
I figured out what was wrong with my machine (I think). The tension was too tight so I will sort that in a minute. The fraying is dreadful and will drive us crackers. Still don't know what to do. Tried running an of cut through the hob but too much fabric is lost. I can't hem that amount of fabric, I can't hem it anyway it just gets jammed.
I realised that I didn't buy the no fray stuff because it's not sold in UK! Flaming henry, that's just typical!
I think I may have to slightly stretch the shirring elastic onto the bobbin because it's not fluffing up enough when it is sewn. I will give this a bash.

I am getting very frustrated I know the skirt I want to make because I have it but I can't find anything to show me how to make it lol. The closest I have found is this: http://www.daciaray.com/?p=334
But I want to do the back panel as one piece so the skirt is made from two pieces of fabric with a zip on the hip and a button on the waist band. All the gathered skirts I find are elasticated and I really don't want to make an elasticated one but I am getting tempted now because I don't have a clue how to gather my skirtI haven't cut anything because I don't want my skirt to end up very square and all the tutorials seem to use rectangles which I am sure must turn out odd..
If you want the back as one piece just use two fronts because they're only rectangles. I made a skirt like that at school and the top was gathered by hand using two parallel rows of running stitch, gathered up and pinned evenly to the waistband. It doesn't look odd when it's finished because the gathering gives it shape. I've still got another skirt like it that I made about thirty years ago. If you want to see it I could put a photo on.
I love your quilt by the way.0 -
Pennib, I love the houses on your bunting, they look to have sleepy, smiley faces!
Hmo, those scented coat hangers look good.
Irishgirl, you rock in that dress!0 -
Hi Kaz - I didn't spot the construction at all from the photo. It's a very un-peplumy peplum:

I think shirring can be really tricky for anyone, no matter how much experience you have, and shirring fraying chiffon would be a real challenge. Some machines seem to be really laid back about having their tension altered - others just don't like it. A breaking needle is usually a sign of wrong tension, too much fabric (both of which you've thought of) or sometimes a needle that has lost some of its sharpness.0 -
Hi Ladies, im looking to purchase a rotary cutter.Could someone suggest a decent one, which is the best etc.
ManyThanks, x0 -
Sorry for all those who are having trouble with machines. Just got hubs to fix mine after it threw a wobbly. Most of it was dust and a loose screw in the bobbin.
Left a comment on your blog Irishgirl (should we start calling you Rocker now:D)
Here is the finished bunting.
More photos at the usual place!0 -
