I went over to visit my parents this weekend, so a whole raft of fresh charity shops - I bought lots of duvets for sewing. I also bought some fabric to make a dress for going to my friend's wedding. It was the pattern that came free with 'Sew' magazine a few months ago, if anybody remembers it - it's a prom-type dress with lace over the top.

But I rather like this one: http://www.aspirestyle.co.uk/products/all/fever-kennedy-prom-dress-3283 Has anybody seen a pattern anywhere for a similar dress?

I have decided to tackle a dress pattern over the summer, not sure on the style or material yet but I am going to have fun deciding!

    ^^^^ Very chic!
Any ideas one my sewing machine problems guys? Sorry to pester!
Oh there was another thing too, I bought nylon chiffon (I think, it was the type it said to buy as it's non fray) but it does seem to be fraying. Do you think I would be mad to try running the edges of the chiffon through the flame on my hob to seal them like you do with ribbon to stop it fraying? It would sure take a while but would be worth it if it stops the fraying.

    Thank you all :)

I have hear people say they use shower curtains to line make up bags etc. it is on my to do list!

Hi Keiss :D I don't usually wash my fabric before making bags but I do iron it :) a lot of the time I use duvet covers or sheets.
I have this waterproof fabric I line my make-up bags with http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/RETRO-BIRDS-Wipe-Clean-Waterproof-PVC-Textile-Fabric-FQ-/350446416606?pt=UK_Crafts_Fabric_Textiles_SM&hash=item51983bf2de

It is very easy to sew with (I don't have a special teflon foot for my machine)

This seller has loads of designs :D

I have used shower curtains too and no probs :)
Thanks for the link...looks lovely stuff....yet another reason for spending more money!

Didn't realize I needed a teflon foot.....just googled it...mmm, I do have a foot with rollers on it for my (Dutch) machine, which my booklet says is good for sewing leather, suede and plastic. So it looks like I am better prepared than I thought!!!

Thanks again Miss Pixie and hart44 for your help...must get the machine set up and have a play with ordinary material and see how I get on.

But first, bed methinks..up too late again cross-stitching!

  • Love your bunting Pennib

I made some myself yesterday for the garden out of a piece of blue checked fabric, I didnt want to go to the trouble of sewing the individual flags onto bias binding so just made a channel at the top of each one and threaded them onto garden twine for a quick job.
