Well, I managed to sew the first frill onto the satin waist band. I have done 1/6th of the shirring on the second layer (well the first part of the second layer) but the thread keeps snapping. It's doing my head in. I'm going to go back and have another crack at it in a minute. It seems as though it may be coming a bit tighter with the shirring elastic wound tighter but I don't know if that's just wishful thinking?
DH has decided that I can overlock it all rather than hemming it. Hmmmm, lucky me to have such a helpful DH *rolleyes*. Right, better get back to it, or I'll never get the darn thing finished

ilovepugs I have an olfa rotary cutter it has been really good so far and you can tell the difference between that and the cheap poundland one I also have
Cut through about 6 layers of cotton this morning no problem!
I'd back that up, I also just replaced my blade and it only cost £3.99 so not too expensive. I've had mine about a year and tbh it only needed replacing because I went over a pin so I had 1 blunt spot on the wheel and it was really annoying to have to keep going back to get that one spot! The new blade cut through a medium weight cotton like a hot knife through butter! Well worth getting quality goods!0 -
Hi Ladies, im looking to purchase a rotary cutter.Could someone suggest a decent one, which is the best etc.
ManyThanks, x
I use an Olfa 45 mm de luxe rotary cutter. I find the handle comfortable if I am cutting a lot of fabric. Also it retracts as I let go the handle and can be locked. You need to consider what size cutter you require -smaller size for shaped items. It also depends on how much you are going to use the cutter and what you want to pay.0 -
I got mine one ebay by the way which was much cheaper than anywhere else I have seen but make sure you get a self healing cutting mat you don't want to ruin your desk. Also when you are finished with your mat brush it down so it doesn't heal full of fluff!Getting married Wednesday 24th August 2011!
2010 wins: approx £2198
2011 wins value so far: approx £650

^^^^ Very chic!
Any ideas one my sewing machine problems guys? Sorry to pester!
Oh there was another thing too, I bought nylon chiffon (I think, it was the type it said to buy as it's non fray) but it does seem to be fraying. Do you think I would be mad to try running the edges of the chiffon through the flame on my hob to seal them like you do with ribbon to stop it fraying? It would sure take a while but would be worth it if it stops the fraying.
Try cutting out fabrics that are prone to fraying with pinkingshears, and or use a spray called FrayCheck, I think its called.
I am just back off of my weekend away so skimming through. Sorry if someone else has already suggested this. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
