Rightyho, I'm off to work shortly but just popped in to say that I have started overlocking the fraying fabric. It was going ok but I kept getting threads caught which jammed up the blasted machine constantly. I ended up with the chiffon and needle jammed in the machine and had to dismantle the whole shebang. I got it all out in the end though thankfully. This was on the bit that had been half shirred. There's only about 18" left to finish off on that piece. I will finish that tomorrow. Then I will do both sides of the wide piece which isn't shirred yet.
Unfortunately, I have already attached 1 piece to the waist band so will decide tomorrow what to do with that. I also have another narrow piece to hem. Then lots of other bits to do.
I'm not so worried about doing it now as it's reasonably easy to do but I do know that the shirred pieces are going to be an absolute pig to do.
I'm also concerned about the very short length of the skirt so far. I may actually just chuck the first waist band and the first 2 narrow strips as I will only (HA!) have wasted 18" of chiffon and it will probably save me hours and hours of machine jamming.
What would you guys do in my position? Would you waste the first lot of chiffon and the satin too (this could probably be unpicked and used for another project but don't know what I could use the chiffon for).
    Hmm, ponder on!

I have spent the last 2 hours catching up on here, and the blogs and websites etc etc. I could have made another bag in that time! Eek.
If I do start up a business and stop pottering around, i will need to get my act togther, or I will never have any time to make things at all!
I have a hand sewn bag that I made yesterday at BF's that just needs a lining and its finished. So Hopefully I will get that sorted out. But first I have to get DGD to bed! She was watching TV so quietly here in front of me, I forgot the time.

wendym, I just had to look up what a peplum was! I'm so ignorant of sewing terms ;).
I figured out what was wrong with my machine (I think). The tension was too tight so I will sort that in a minute. The fraying is dreadful and will drive us crackers. Still don't know what to do. Tried running an of cut through the hob but too much fabric is lost. I can't hem that amount of fabric, I can't hem it anyway it just gets jammed :(.
I realised that I didn't buy the no fray stuff because it's not sold in UK! Flaming henry, that's just typical!
I think I may have to slightly stretch the shirring elastic onto the bobbin because it's not fluffing up enough when it is sewn. I will give this a bash.
Driving me potty now though :(

could you not use the really thin bias binding on the edges? Not sure how you would gather it up though

I picked up some for these free cross stitch charts and now I want to make something from one but I'm not sure what size Aida I need or doesn't it matter? I've done cross stitches from kits before and I have 14ct aida but I'm not sure if this chart will work for this size aida. Has anyone used these charts before?

Kaz when I'm in the position you're in with sewing that's driving me round the bend I know I need to take a break from it and then decide what to do, but I usually bash on in a temper and then regret it. Not really helpful, is it?

I got mine one ebay by the way which was much cheaper than anywhere else I have seen but make sure you get a self healing cutting mat you don't want to ruin your desk. Also when you are finished with your mat brush it down so it doesn't heal full of fluff!

How I wish someone had told me this before I cut fleece on mine
