Hmo, your storage caddies are great.
Have they got thick interfacing in them to make them stand up?

    Hi everyone

My daughter wanted a new school bag but didnt want the flowery girly fabric I had been using. She was chucking a lot of stuff out night before last so I went through it to salvage buttons etc and found a nice tshirt with a pic on the front so thought I would try to make a bag out of it.

I had some of that black out lining in my stash which I got as a remnant in Dunhelm Mill ages ago and used that as the lining. Anyone wanting something nice to use, it is really good as its got a sort of fabricy feel to one side and a vinyl on the reverse so makes it strong and sews nicely. Is very supple too so makes the finished bag feel nice.

Off to take some photos and will udate my blog as soon this afternoon.

I love those storage bags! You can never have too much storage :)

Another question.. What wadding should I buy if I want to make a small, not too thick patchwork baby blanket and is there anything else I might need that I am not thinking of?

I think I just used a 2oz wadding for the one I made a couple of weeks ago.
I will have to look in my collection of old mags etc and see which one had the similar storage boxes as I am liking them too, especially if I am to get a work/craft room out of DS's bedroom now that he has moved out!.

misspixie - i used the cotton stuff. Makes a really cozy & warm yet thin blanket. It is a lot more money that the 2oz poly though! You can buy it in "crib size" from ebay or by the metre from various places. I have used these before and was very impressed. My order took 2 days to arrive, despite most of the country being hidden by snow at the time! I ordered the extra wide cotton/poly blend as I had more than one quilt to do and could squeeze 2 quilts into the width.

You also might need some spray adhesive or lots of safety pins. My first quilt was small crib size. I pinned the layers together & then hand-sewed the layers together with large basting stitches, working from the middle out. Boy did the pins hurt! I have used the spray adhesive for all the other quilts that I have done since! lol (also bought from asding)

hi i tend to have various weights so not sure i would say possibly medium or thick

the fabric is curtain weight fabric too so i think thats helping, also its felt inside so it all adds up to making them stand up easily.

they are now both in their respective bathrooms next to the sinks with deorderants and mouthwas etc in them, alot nicer than looking at cans and bottles:)

Thanks yeah I have some 2oz polyester but looking at it I didn't even think I could use it for a quilt because its a bit flimsy so I started looking for some cotton wadding but it is so expensive! At least I know the people receiving the quilt are the sort to look after it and keep it for a long time so I don't mind spending a bit more on it.

Hart, I have bought the patterns off of the internet, but yet to make them, as I was away on holiday at the time. Need to set the printer up with some ink and paper and then I will be having a go at the Amelia bags.!
I have several projects to do, but with the nursery on holidays the opportunity to sew has been reduced to practically zero, as I am just too worn out in the evenings at the moment.
My son came and took half of his stuff, including the sofa bed from his room, so he is moving out proper. Intends to live with one of the twins. I see trouble ahead.
But I am going to use the room as a craft room until DGD is old enough to need a bigger room anyway!.
Its getting the help to set it all up, and get organised, as with my spine problems lifting is really very limited. (it shouldnt be at all, but then who listens to the doctors:o!).
I am so looking forward to getting creative on a daily basis again.

Hope you are feeling a bit better Mooloo :D
The bags are so nice to make Im now just finishing my 3rd one, I have to go to work soon so Ive had to stop. Just got to sew the lining to the outer bag and finish it off :(
The only thing about the bag is it takes ages cutting all the pieces out then the bag makes up very quick :D

Ruffus :D my bag is very flowery and girly so my daughter won't like it :D I had 3 boys and her and she's not a bit girly :(
Getting myself sorted 1 day/1thing at a time :) and Love sewing :)

Well this afternoon/evening I have made a walking stick cover for my friend Molly. It features a cotton printing of her dogs and some Cath Kidston fabrics. I put magnetic clasps on it as well.
The pictures of it all are on my bloggy thing. But I think I might be able to copy a picture to here.
