ISOM - I like the door stops, good idea for using up scraps left over.

Finished my third top (pic on blog), thats all of them done for now, the fabric for all three came to less than £20 so well chuffed. I have loads of the brown and gold left so might make another one in a different style out of it save wasting it. Have cut out a skirt in the butterfly fabric, made one yesterday but didnt get it all straight (was rushing it and didnt tack or anything just to see how pattern would come out) so starting again. Might get a bit done later, but have lots of other jobs need doing today as going out to Hobbycrafts with my son tomorrow. Looking forward to that as havent been for ages.

I'm going finally to get up the courage to make a dress. I've bought a sheet from a CS and I was going to make the voile (or whatever it's called, the dummy run!) out of that. Do I need to or should I just crack on with the real fabric?

  • Hi Irishgirl. Small world! Yes, 6 patterns - mostly for bags and sewing room accessories although I ordered one to make summer tops for my daughter.

Where do you buy fabric etc? We are a bit hard done by here. Apart from Craftswomans Fabrics we haven't much choice really. Spinning Mill/Wheel isn't great, Paragon has gone downhill - mostly satin and extremely bright coloured netting.

    Thanks
I had a look at the one already and I might use it if I can't find anything else I was looking for more of a '3d' one if you get what I mean but I seem to be failing in finding one so I might have to do that one and alter it's face a bit and make it much bigger :)

If you are a reasonably standard shape and have chosen a simple pattern I'd be inclined to use the real fabric. When cutting out, remember that you can easily take in a dress that's too big, but if you cut it too small you're stuck. I have always been too impatient to use a toile, but I can see that it could be a confidence booster, or a Horrible Object Lesson that spares you making mistakes on the real thing.
