    help...sos!!!! our 9 yr old son has just told me he needs a wolf costume or trousers and wolf mask for Tuesday - I knew the play was coming up but he was borrowing an outfit from a school friend who has changed their mind - aggghhhh

    Will it be hard to make something for a complete newbie????

    I would say someting like this would be easy enough. I wouldn't want to try a costume with the full face as getting the eyes lined up and it looking good would be tricky.

    I did my costumes in two parts - trousers and top. Mainly so DS can go to the toilet without having to take everything off, but bear it mind as you also have some more room for error on the sizing.

    If you can get a cheap grey fleece that would be good with a furry head. You could customise cheap black gloves with claws (try Tesco for gloves they had loads for 10p in my local in their final sale clearance)

    I'm no expert but manged to bodge together some similar ones this week and can send you some sketches of patterns if you like.

    Of course if you make it we'd love to see photos!

    Hart and Pootle - thanks for the comments re top, they are not hard to make, I have just been using my own bought tops as patterns, the tshirt one was only really the four raglan seams then getting the neck hole to be same size as the tshirt I already had, then just had to bind the neck with strip of fabric and do side seams. Bottom hem and sleeve hems were left wide enough for bit of thin elastic.

    Does anyone know of any free patterns/tutorials for a stuff duck? I need to do one that is a reasonable size because we are using it in our assessment in a couple of weeks at uni.

    I could just use the stuffed duck I have but I thought it would be nice to make one especially for it :)

    I dressed up as Max from where the wild things are once (yes really!) for World Book day.

    I wore a white tracksuit ( well light grey)- borrowed a tail from the nursery's dressing-up box. Then put a pair of football socks over my trainers and used a hot-glue gun to glue paper claws onto the socks. (The school was carpeted so no health & safety issues) I also found an old pair of gloves and hot glued some paper claws onto those too. I then made a hat thing with an old pair of (clean)white tights. I cut of the legs and used the crutch bit for the hat (like a balaclava), knotted what was left of the legs to make ears.

    Thank you Rufus for explaining how you made your lovely top :D I might give it a go :o as it sounds better than using a paper pattern.

    Tamster :D shame you don't have a pic :rotfl::rotfl:
