Hi
The bag I've just made has a flap and I sewed all round then turned inside out through gap left in bottom of lining then pressed and topstiched.0 -

Vicki, One way of lining a bag is to sew it around the edges whilst inside out and leave a small opening in the bottom (of the lining) so you can turn it through. Not sure about one with a flap though whether you can still sew it all the way round or not. The way you did it looks fine to me xx
Thanks - this sounds like it could work for next time, it's blowing my mind trying to picture it in my head though, will have to experiment as I go along!0 -
Love the makes Hart, Vicki & Midge, gorgeous.
OK finally dusted off the machine this weekend and mended a pair of jeans (yawn!)...then got crafty
Haven't got much fabric in and a bit skint to buy any month so cut up an old blouse, and used scrap packaging and coloured paper to make a couple of cards.
Yes I did sew them LOL (using a v old old needle). Worked OK sewing the appliques onto the card/paper sandwich. Cost zilch so v pleased.
One for Valentines Day (t'other half was v impressed), and save the other for Mothers Day. I think she'll like it cos she taught me to sew, and its her old blouse :rotfl:

*Ok posting the pics didn't work, I'll keep trying!
**Oh I think its working now!0 -
lovely makes everyone!
The quilts on my homepage are mostly made with jelly rolls that I cut myself. You just need a rotary cutter, mat & ruler to cut the fabric into 2.5 inch strips. I bought a couple of fat quaters from here, and also used some other fabric from fabricland as they sell in 10cm amounts.0 -
Wow pennib your embroidery painting is beautiful :T.
I didn't get much sewing done yesterday, I did do a tote bag for my DGD for when she comes to visitIt seemed to take me all day as the front bit where the pencils are was a bit short so I added some side bits but then when I sewed the bag together I had forgot to sew the sections for the pencils and had to undo it
. I put a big pocket on the front for her stickers and a small pocket inside.
I have it stuffed with some new bits I have got from CS's and HB as the basket she has here is in need of bit more grown up stuff as it has lots of baby bits (now put up for DGD no.2) I hope to see her next weekend
fab idea it looks great well done0 -

great makes well done, you have been busy0 -
I've been lurking on and off since the sewing machine went away in the cupboard months ago, and have been quietly admiring all of the wonderful things you have been doing. Thought I had better get some of my half finished projects finished so finally made some cushions for my sofa - just very basic with an opening at the back like a pillowcase but I love them as I got to play with different ideas. One is applique, another quilted and one is my first go at patchwork which was better than I had hoped for. I got to use up one of my John Lewis samples too!
And also made this bag for DS to take his things in to Preschool. I copied the train design from the Laura Ashley trains bedding which I love but found putting a lining in a bag one of the hardest things I have ever done. Is there a secret way of doing this? I was tearing my hair out pinning and getting puzzled. In the end I sewed in the back and two sides at the top, then turned the lining back inside the bag and sewed along the front at the top edge and hid the stitches under a decorative trim! It looks fine now but I am sure this is not the proper way to do it!
The next thing I want to do is a fabric wendy house or teepee but I need to finish off everything else before I start that...
they are fantastic well done.0 -
I made this tonight the elephant is appliqued but not sure if my technique is right. but it looks fine
