Hello all you wonderful peeps
I am after a bit of sewing machine advice. Firstly I am brand new to them so I am not sure of all the proper names of part of the sewing machine but I will do my best to describe what I need to know.
I had a delta experssions portable mini sewing machine for xmas. I used it on xmas day and all was working fine, just had a play with it make sure I could do straight lines etc. Unfortunately the instructions got thrown out by accident so I can't refer to them.
Today I have to come to it and accidentally pulled the thread out of the needle. I have threaded the needle back in (not sure if there is a specific way to do this) and followed an online video for a different machine about trying to create a loop. I have managed to create a loop but this didnt seem to help. I have 2 threads, 1 through the needle and 1 up from the bobbin. However my machine wont actually sew. When trying it sort of attempts to attach the thread to the fabric but then the thread falls out exceptionally easily. The bobbin thread is not attaching to anything and only seems to be tangling.
I am really confused and getting really frustratedIf anyone could give me any advice I would REALLY appreciate it.
thanks ever so much
Babymoo x
hmm not sure what is up but my I have a very old machine & have to hold the ends of both threads when I do my first few stitches or the top thread flies out of the needle!
Also rule number 1 with sewing machine probs is to re-thread top & bottom threads, checking the tension.
use same good quality thread in top & bobbin (my machine will only take any guttermans or coats cotton but not other types of coats)
And change needle after each project0 -
Just wanted to pop back and say hi-Ive been lurkinig when I can but been very busy-Ive also not been clicking the thanks button
so Im going to go back a few pages and start thanking.
I was watching Friends yesterday and noticed an outfit Jennifer Aniston had on with some drawstring linen pants and a crop cardy. It reminded me of a pair of palazzo pants I had when I was still working in an office (gawd doesnt that make me feel old-and Im not really;))
It was the most comfie trousers I had and I wore them just about all the time.So I decided I want to try and find a pattern. My stepmum made them for me when I just started working-but Im not really in contact with her now so I might have to do this one alone.0 -

I have been busy today, went back up to do some more sewing this afternoon as daughter was up there sorting out her room next door. I managed to piece together the patchwork pieces for my sister's small quilt. It is what she says is called a "scarf" for the bed, in her case a double bed and you just lay it across the bottom of the bed. I will tack the three layers together this evening and I can then start the quilting.
I also managed to cut out enough squares for one of the denim quilts. I think I will do it a different way to the raggy ones as some of the jeans were stretch denim and I am not sure whether it will "rag" the same as normal denim. Plus on one of the sites I saw that tells you how to make them it suggested you cut 10" squares and you need 48 of them as in 6 squares by 8 squares. Well I don't know what size jeans she was using but I couldn't get 10" squares out of most of the jeans I have without having a seam across so this is what I have done, cut them with a seam across the middle or to one side. I am thinking may be I will use some pretty coloured thread and do a row or two of machine embroidery along each side of the seams to make them look more like a feature. I think I will try to sew on the wadding direct to the back of the denim when I have tarted all the squares up and then sew them together as I don't think I will be able to hand quilt through the denim.
I have cut out enough squares to do one quilt, need to find a lot more pairs from somewhere to make four.0 -
Thanks - the front is made up of strips of fabric, from a Moda jellyroll - the It's A Hoot one.
That's great, your picture, love itThis is fabulous, I love your choice of fabrics
Thanks, it took me a long time to decide which jellyroll to get. I'm a ponderer...0
