Wow pennib your embroidery painting is beautiful :T.
I didn't get much sewing done yesterday, I did do a tote bag for my DGD for when she comes to visit
courtneyscraftbag.jpg?t=1297680458 It seemed to take me all day as the front bit where the pencils are was a bit short so I added some side bits but then when I sewed the bag together I had forgot to sew the sections for the pencils and had to undo it :o. I put a big pocket on the front for her stickers and a small pocket inside.
I have it stuffed with some new bits I have got from CS's and HB as the basket she has here is in need of bit more grown up stuff as it has lots of baby bits (now put up for DGD no.2) I hope to see her next weekend :D
Getting myself sorted 1 day/1thing at a time :) and Love sewing :)

got a bit of fabric towards my sons quilt and just covered my bathroom ottman which was fairly easy just cut the material to size and stapled it on to the cork type bit (probably cheating but only have a small stapler) just hope ds doesnt start messing with it. everones makes are really good, love the kindle cover and the bag.

Nykied -- that has come out really well.

Pennib - your embroidery/painting looks gorgeous you are so talented.

I have done a couple more cushions, a wall hanging and yesterday I made myself a new bag and matching wallet. Just off to finish a wall pic for youngest daughters birthday on Wed. Will post some pics when all done.

    PS happy valentines everyone.

I've been lurking on and off since the sewing machine went away in the cupboard months ago, and have been quietly admiring all of the wonderful things you have been doing. Thought I had better get some of my half finished projects finished so finally made some cushions for my sofa - just very basic with an opening at the back like a pillowcase but I love them as I got to play with different ideas. One is applique, another quilted and one is my first go at patchwork which was better than I had hoped for. I got to use up one of my John Lewis samples too!

And also made this bag for DS to take his things in to Preschool. I copied the train design from the Laura Ashley trains bedding which I love but found putting a lining in a bag one of the hardest things I have ever done. Is there a secret way of doing this? I was tearing my hair out pinning and getting puzzled. In the end I sewed in the back and two sides at the top, then turned the lining back inside the bag and sewed along the front at the top edge and hid the stitches under a decorative trim! It looks fine now but I am sure this is not the proper way to do it!

The next thing I want to do is a fabric wendy house or teepee but I need to finish off everything else before I start that...

Loving all your makes Vicki - cushions are gorgeous and despite what you say, the bag looks very professional!

I'm sure your son will be as proud as punch using that.

I love the Kindle cover and the kiddies totes, but I feel like Ive missed a secret-where do you all get your jelly rolls from? I googled yesterday but only got some very expensive options-or is that it? And whats the trick to deciding on your fabric sizes? Is there a guide somewhere? I feel like there's a labyrinth of differences and I cant pin them down (no pun intended:o) I have DH's birthday in March and want to do home made for him-he's also a kindle lover so I might nick that idea:T,and DS1 in June (would like to do some home made bits for him too.I just dont want to run in all blazing and buy stuff that I really dont need just because I dont know any better.

I bought a Moda jelly roll, although you can get cheaper versions. The best place I found is http://www.simplysolids.co.uk/ and they delivered really quickly.

The tutorial for my Kindle is here: http://www.modabakeshop.com/2009/05/bookkeeper.html#more but, if I were to make it again, I'd only use 8 strips rather than 9 and, in step 8, I'd sew the line 5.5 inches up rather than 6, as the tutorial is for the old Kindle, which is bigger than the new one.

Love all the makes vicki and midge xx

Vicki, One way of lining a bag is to sew it around the edges whilst inside out and leave a small opening in the bottom (of the lining) so you can turn it through. Not sure about one with a flap though whether you can still sew it all the way round or not. The way you did it looks fine to me xx
