oooohhhh its gone up to £2.25/m now!!! too slow! but I have found some of the same polycotton selling on ebay as Fat quarters for 99p so if they bought it at £1.99 then they are making a good profit! Not that I would buy polycotton FQ........ funny what you see turn up on ebay sometimes......

I don't think it has, it showed as 2.25 in my basket but when they took the payment they changed the price to £1.99!

I'm decorating my Darling Daughters room (first bedroom) and I have made some bunting out of lilac gingham and plain polycotton. I'm halfway through making a small fabric storage bin. Wondering what else I can make. Was going to cover some cheap cushions. And I have some cream fleece blankets that I think will look nice if I sew fabric to one side for some throws. But what else? Any ideas?

I also have a lot of pink organza (dress fabric) to play with (friend passed it on from another friend who makes wedding gowns). Apart from some lovely tutu's, ideas?

Nykied, that hat is lovely! I'll be trying that too :D

Spent yesterday attempting to make my first ever clasp purse :eek: I managed to sew the entire purse together at the top so you couldn't get in and then glued the hinge together when gluing the frame on so the frame is now slightly scewed :rotfl::rotfl:

I've decided all future first attempts will now be known as prototypes and only following attempts at the same item should turn out perfect ;)

Today I'm going down the allotment where hopefully I can't do any damage :A

Have a lovely Sunday everyone x

hi all, only read the first few pages but going to have a read through later, just this past 6 months started sewing, started off doing buttons now prgoress onto curtains. my son has a cabin bed (the one with space underneath) and he had a spare single duvet so cut it up and made it into 4 curtains, 2 for the front and 1 each for the sides. i have no sewing machine so have hand stiched. also want to make a couple of cushion covers for my sons room.

How about making some flowers? They could be stuck on a hair band or clip or even on a picture frame or something. I found this tutorial the other day:

  • Hi,

What a fantastic thread - I'm hoping that it's going to really inspire me to start a few sewing projects I've been meaning to get around to - including blind making .... eek!!

We inherited an old sewing machine which we have no idea whether we can make work. Mum says the old ones are the best though, so fingers crossed as don't want to buy a new one until I'm sure I can manage to use one properly!

The machine we have is a JONES 881 but it has no instructions. Just wondering whether anyone out there might have the same machine and whether we could borrow the instructions to copy or scan to the computer?

Perhaps if no-one has instructions I could post a pic and someone could help me identify what the various buttons are for and I could have a fiddle and try to thread it?!

    Many thx in advance.
  • If you dont get any joy on here you could try posting on The Sewing Forum website and someone might be able to help. By all means post piccies of the buttons and we all should be able to help you. If all else fails you can downloads instruction manuals from one of these website (there is a fee of about £5 though) x
