you can use duvet covers (I do) they are a bit softer but still give good results
I mostly duvets and sheet from charity shops but I do buy fat quarters I get from ebay or one of the online fabric shops when Im doing something special
I bought a double duvet cover last week from a CS, going to use some for the lining of my Kindle keeper.
The woman who served me said, 'Oooh, that's lovely and pretty' and I thought, 'Oh no it's not, it's just got a green print on it!' but then when I got it home, I realised that it was double-sided and the other side was actually quite pretty. Bonus0 -

Hi Gina
I used to sell fabric for curtains and bedding to hotels/pubs /nhs hospitals, so hope I can help a little.
Most bedding fabric is 145g weight whereas curtain/on the roll fabric, tends to be 220g. So the duvet fabric is lighter/thinner/softer. It depends what you are making with it as to whether it would be suitable or not. It won't wear as well as a curtain weight fabric would, nor will it "drape" as nicely, but is perfectly OK for small projects.
hope this helps

I bought some fabric today to make a bag like Pootleflump's. Not entirely sure how it will turn out but hey
I also bought some lovely fleece to make this hat for my niece:

(sorry, don't know how to do little linkys). The fleece I bought is thicker than that though, so not sure how it will turn out.0 -
I was in my local WH Smiths today and they had craft books buy one get one half price. For sewing the selection included Cath Kidson, Tilda, general sewing and patchwork. They had other craft books for papercrafts and the latest Martha Stewart. I don't know how long the promotion is but I expect it is available in all Smith's0

I know I shouldn't but I was browsing fabric websites and found pretty polycotton @ £1.99/m!
haven't ordered from them before abd delivery is £5.95 regardless of how much is ordered.

oooohhhh its gone up to £2.25/m now!!! too slow! but I have found some of the same polycotton selling on ebay as Fat quarters for 99p so if they bought it at £1.99 then they are making a good profit! Not that I would buy polycotton FQ........ funny what you see turn up on ebay sometimes......0 -

My sewing machine is dusted off... I've got it set so the tension is fine... (still don't know how to do anything apart from straight and zigzag but I'll read the dusty instructions!)
I have a question... Today I went into the Laura Ashley shop... a single duvet in the sale was £18 down from £50, the same material was £18 a metre... the assistant said that bedding material is softer and fabric off the roll is better for any sewing projects...
Was she right or was it that she thought I'd buy more material off the roll? (I didnt buy any as knew I had good old MSE and this thread to ask) thank you.
my little girl has a double bed and when i bought new bedding for her new room recently i also bought a single set to match.
i cut the single duvet up and made two roman blinds with it.
i used blackout linning to give it more substance and they look and hang fine pictures on my blog0 -
