nykied, if you hop on over to my homepage there are some very basic instructions. I haven't tried washing them yet - could be when it all goes wrong....

Well I managed to buy 45 meters of elastic, 10 magnetic clasps (for handbags) and 30 zips before I even left for work this morning - impulse ebay buying over breakfast should maybe not become a habit!!

Oops update - add 25 meters of silver ric rak to the mix - really need to get sewing :)

I get ebay fever. I buy lots of stuff then don't buy anything for ages. Then buy lots of stuff...

  • I always had trouble trying to get those snaps to work properly and probably wasted more than I used and they are quite expensive too.

I found a supplier of plastic snaps and haven't looked back. They come in all colours etc. and are so easy to apply. They do come from China but she is very quick in sending them - they usually take about 10 days to arrive.

One pack of 200 snaps in 8 different colours and the pliers to apply them is about £20 including postage and the snaps on their own are about £2 for 50.

I have ordered via her yahoo group - but she sells on Ebay US too.

Kam snaps are another make of plastic snaps but I think they may be a bit more expensive.

    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/notionsupply/

the above is the link to her yahoo group - the information is in the files section - the snap package is $30 which is just over £18

http://!!!!!!!.com/4cxl8de - this link is for Ebay.com and the package (looks the same) is $35 which is about £21

    No postage on either.

The initial outlay may seem expensive, but you do get 200 snaps in 8 different colours which you can choose, so should keep you going for a long time.

You can't apply these snaps with other snap pliers, so you do need the complete package to start with.

I have found the main problem is to stop buying the snaps - I have just had to have them in more colours - there are over 60 to choose from.

Just got to find something to use them all on

I used them on this sock monkeys little jacket and on the bagsth_bags.jpg

Thanks so much gemsmember! When I used to sew years ago I often used those kits of metal stud fasteners that you have to hammer thru, but they are v expensive.

Your sock monkey is coooool! :T

Just trawling thru more pages on the thread and found the sewdirect.com website....aw my goodness, when I'm up and running then they're getting my business, there are so many gorgeous Vogue pattterns on there esp the Vintage Vogue. I love wierd and wonderful couture style fashion only I can't afford it :rotfl:

    gemsmember, love the sock monkey.
  • Hello,

I'm a bit of lurker but, I need some sewing help!!!

I've got a lingerie pattern cutting book and I'm making the French Knickers. The pattern is sorted, the fabric is cut out. Two pieces for the front (centre seam), two pieces for the back (centre seam) and a gusset (sort of diamondy oval shaped). I've made shorts, trousers, close fitting knickers etc before so the assembly would be fine if only I could work out what/how to do with the gusset as it's nothing like what I've done before and the book isn't helping!

I've trawled the internet and really you don't want to know the sites that have come back but, nothing helpful (I've obviously been on the wrong sites)

Does anyone know how I should assemble the french knickers incorporating the gusset.

    Help !

    thanks

    EM

Sorry Dizzymum haven't got much help but I can imagine what sites come back on the internet if you type gusset in LOL!

Thinking of french type knickers isn't the gussett just sort of tacked in at the four corners rather that sewn in round the edges? Sorry told you I wouldn't be much help :o

Just thought I'd say Lidl have a few sewing/crafty/knitting items coming in on 10th Feb, might get some knitting yarn in. (sorry thats nothing to do with the gussett question LOL!)
