Having found I didn´t have a tablecloth that fits the new dining room table, I thought that for next year I would hand embroider my own.

I was thinking white linen or cotton with a gold, silver or even black stitching, with the ´pictures´ just as an outline in stem stitch.
I´ve tried searching the internet for patterns and ideas, but so far I haven´t found anything really suitable.

Any ideas, designs, hints and tips etc would be really helpful. Thanks

  • Oooh, while i'm here! I want to make some valances for some windows and am not sure how to hang them. If there's a curtain pole already there i can use that (can i?), but what about if there's no curtain pole. Do i need to install one to hang it?

Sandy2 have you thought about whitework? Maybe that will bring up something on google?

Here is a sewing/painting picture that I've just finished, really enjoyed making it. The paper is almost like a soft quilting fabric after it was stitched on. More pictures on how it was made up on me homepage. Piccy looks a bit squint but its not like that in real life!

Can someone recommend a make of dressmaking scissors?

My mum has asked for a pair as her trusted ones that have been around since I was a child have finally broken.

She doesn't do a huge amount of dressmaking/craftwork now so doesn't need a hefty great pair but reasonable quality ones so that when she does sew, they are comfortable to use. She has quite small hands.

    Thanks

I`ve got some Ikea ones that i`m impressed with :D

Nutty woman, what a fabulous picture, you both look sooo good. My OH used to dress up as Santa at the care home where he worked before we moved to Spain, so we left our fancy dress stuff in a charity shop.
