Hi Ladies, going to have a go at making my first patchwork quilt for new GGD due at christmas. Do I have to use all cotton fabric or could I use poly/cotton. Have seen some lovely bedding sets cheap in Argos that I could cut up, do you think this would be o.k

    Sheila:)

My "Jelly roll" quilt which is on my blog has got a mixture of quilting cotton and poly cotton in it. I would say to wash all your fabric first as the 100% cotton will shrink more than the poly-cotton. Also I didnt use one of the polycotton I bought because it was much flimsier and thinner than the other fabrics.

Puritan quiltmakers would say it should all be good quality quilting cotton but as I see it, traditionally quilts have been made with old clothes and recycled fabrics and whatever was to hand.

Thank you for your help, will maybe zig zag my edges to stop it fraying will take longer but never mind. and will wash it first.

Never thought about that people used to use all sorts of fabric to make quilts so hopefully should be o.k

Getting so many ideas of this thread. Trouble is I retire in 3 months and got a list a mile long of things to make, won't be time for anything else!

  • Hello everyone, I'm thinking of making my own curtains. Do you know a good place to get fabric at a decent price? Thank you :)

  • Hi ladies can anyone point me in the direction of patterns for doll clothes. my grandaughter who's deaf has to have a doll to help her speech and language and it needs lots of different outfits so she can dress it like she dresses herself for school, hospital visits etc , bed, bath, outdoors etc . she has an 11 inch and a 16 inch baby doll . thank you .
Here's a free pattern not sure on the size of the doll though.

Cuddles they are lovely. My daughter had my first grandchild last year and at 10pm at night while waiting for news I collated all the figures from an audit at work. Did graphs, pie charts, the lot - they were probably all wrong and yours is a much nicer way to keep busy while waiting!

I'll watch out for more news from you.
