pennib she used a machine to sew the blocks together , then to sew the blocks onto the strips . but once the wadding was added she hand sewed around every square .

Hart, you've made some lovely things there. Is there anything inside the crackers or are they just for decoration?[/QUOTE

Thank you for the nice comments :D
The crackers are empty but they can be untied to put small gifts in. I saved my toilet rolls for the insides and Im going to use some to give to my DIL's with a little gift so they have something to keep too :D

I love making the fabric boxes, I need so much storage and these are great to use :D
jcr the quilt is beautiful :T your mum is wonderful :D Im still working on my yellow and green one :o I have managed to put the wadding in and I just have to sew the binding onto the back but that is a hand sewing job so need some time to finish it :o

Georgiabay I love the bag and fabric you have used :T I love red :D

pennib I wish I could make the sock monkeys like you do, I just love yours :D :T maybe will get around to making one soon :o (I have loads of new socks ready waiting to be used :o)

Georgiabay going from looking at the material as curtains to using it as a bag is a bit of a change, but i'm sure you'll grow to love it. it's beautiful.

  • Wow Jcr!That quilt is really lovely,I'm about to start making a quilt each for my 2 little girls.Could I ask a question please?Did 'nanny' put a large piece of wadding in or did she have seperate squares of wadding that she then hand sewed in?I know you send she hand stitched around the square after using the machine, but I just wondered. Not even sure that my question makes sense!lol

Hart, your crayon roll fabric is perfect, nice find!

Twinkle I know what you mean I was thinking of asking the same question!

JCR That must have taken Nanny ages to do by hand. Still wondering if I should do my one by hand or machine (quilting that is)

Here is my another batch of monkey's

twinkles is was a whole sheet.

mil didn't get it from ebay but this is similar to what she bought.
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/4oz-POLYESTER-WADDING-X27-99p-Mt-UPHOLSTERY-QUILTING-/250586480063?pt=UK_Crafts_Quilting_ET&hash=item3a581e3dbf

she used 4oz wadding. but said she wished she used 2 oz, as it was quite hard to sew through it.

not sure how long it took. i know she started it in summer. but due to fact she used 4oz wadding found it too hot to work on with it being on her lap. so only did a sqaure everynow and then. but once weather cooled down as able to get on with it.

pennib your sock monkeys are gorgeous. what do you do with them ? do you sell them or just keep them.
  • Love your sock monkeys, pennib. They are so cute with their little bags.

Oh pennib, just started looking through Claire Leggett's blog....amazing!! Have bookmarked it and will delve in again later! Thanks for pointing it out.

I've been thinking I might start making things to sell...not sure what though. I can bake/cook, sew, knit, draw and make lace (but not for years!). Just got to think what I could mass-make that I would enjoy doing, which can turn a reasonable profit...been known to get too intricate and spend too long on things, so not very good for making money!! A bit of a perfectionist me.......
    :o.

I have probably left it too late for this year's Christmas fairs as I am still making Christmas pressies for friend and family, but might think of what to do for 2011. There is a local
Enterprising Women Make a Difference Conference near me happening in November, and I'm considering going...even though I have no idea what kind of business I want to set up! :D

I trained to be a garden-designer 6 years ago, but didn't get started as lots of things happened. My mum being ill (commuting to Caithness for 2 years) and then dying, followed by major upheaval at the Garden Centre I worked in and then illness, lose job
, new job, more illness and now the recession (wheew...what a list!!) means I have lost all confidence in setting up any Garden Design business, I am now unable to do any garden-work anymore, so that restricts my options too.

So now I feel perhaps I ought to do something I have more experience and confidence in...just not sure which area to go for...or perhaps lots is the answer!! :rotfl:

Off to get on with my knitting and put my thinking cap on.....if anyone can chip in with some ideas...then I am open to all suggestions!!
