Hi everyone

I have been quickly reading and loving all the posts here but time keeps running away from me and Ive not had time to chat to you all
I am half way through my bright zingey patchwork quilt and thought I will show you all
I only had a few of the squares in the middle but they look good as a center pannel :rotfl:Getting myself sorted 1 day/1thing at a timeand Love sewing

That is lovely Hart has a summery feel. I may have to have a go a quilting with so many scraps of material piling up.
But not sure looks daunting.Mortgage

My brain is mush at the moment but someone put a simple version of doing the strips ready to cut into squares on here (about 3-4 pages back but then again) sorry I forget everything these days as Im always rushing inbetween work, school runs and everything else but Im sure the wonderful person will let us know
Im going to have a go at hexies next but thats when I get my week off (I got around to booking a hol before I drop) 3rd OctGetting myself sorted 1 day/1thing at a timeand Love sewing

I have been into a few shops but they were too expensive for me - £6.99 + per metre.....Or is that the sort of prices people pay for fabric? I guess im after bargains but they are hard to find!
I buy most of my fabric here
http://www.cheapfabrics.co.uk/thestore/
and here
http://www.remnanthouse.co.uk/
Both places have a set rate for postage no matter how much you order and remnant house will send small samples free of charge so you can see what the fabric is like first.
I rarely pay as much as £6.99 a metre for fabric.0 -
Hart told you you would be finished before me!! That's a lovely quilt and gorgeous colours. I'm enjoying putting my patches together but dreading the quilting bit as trying to get all that fabric under the machine is pretty daunting looking.
Thanks to everyone for all the links to cheaper fabric. Also the good idea of Pr*mark for bedding to cut up didnt think of that.0 -
Thank you genie

That would of been me - it is called strip piecing, this tutorial shows how to make a block of 9 really easily...
http://www.connectingthreads.com/tutorials/Speed_Strip_Quilting_for_a_Baby_quilt__D3.html
although I sew my strips in pairs & then sew the pairs together so I make blocks of 16 squares (4 blocks by 4 blocks)
When you pin your strips of blocks together, put your pin through/along the seam & then your blocks should be lined up. If one block is slightly bigger, you put it on the bottom & the feed dogs should help correct it. Also if your edges dont match up, follow the bigger edge.
They were the most useful things I learnt on my course0 -
Wow Hart44 that patchwork quilt is fab I would love to give patchwork a go but wouldn't know where to start
:o
I went to the quilting exhibition in Birmingham last year and really enjoyed seeing all the fab quilts and my Aunty won a raffle and won an amazing quilt which had been signed by lots of filmstars etc. It was insured for £66k when they delivered it to her - I couldn't believe it!
Well I've managed to make 2 more sock monkeysMeet Marley and Gwen:

The woman that owns my local craft shop promptly told me she thought Marley was creepy and made some strange gesture about his arms!! This was as I was purchasing items from her shop - good customer service!!Little Miss Chatterbox
