    Thank you hun

She has the pot removed but had to stay in the wheelchair for another week - first week back at school in new class - teacher requested the chair be put outside the classroom and she sat at a desk at the rear of the room - on the friday teacher told them all to go down to the hall and do PE - Boxing of all things!!!! I thought when she told me that she had been sat in the chair doing it - nope she had been doing the full thing - I was fuming - went to see the teacher after the weekend! She held her hands up totally admitted it - said she had totally forgotten - she limped for a week but it does seem to be getting better now - Grrrr! still alls well that ends well!!

I've got a tailors chalk wheely thingy - it has a little canister of powdered chalk, and when you run the wheel along a fine line of chalk comes out. It's the best tailor's chalk I've ever used.

This sounds brilliant - where did you get it? I bought some tailor's pencil things but they're rubbish, you have to press really hard to make a mark and then they keep snapping!
Does anyone buy their fabric online? If so could you point me in the right direction. I have been into a few shops but they were too expensive for me - £6.99 + per metre.....Or is that the sort of prices people pay for fabric? I guess im after bargains but they are hard to find!

Fabric IS expensive, the others are right. A lot of the online places price it by the Fat Quarter as well so it's deceiving - you think £2.65 is good but then realise it's over a tenner a metre. I like Patch Fabrics - they are still those sorts of prices but at least the P&P isn't extortionate on top, and they're really quick. I would second buying sheets etc from charity shops depending on what you want to make - a nice floral sheet will make some lovely make-up bags etc. Or buy XL clothes from charity shops and Primark is cheap. If you live in the North East Boyes is normally quite cheap though the choice isn't all that great. Or try ebay.

All this talk of needles is interesting, I hadn't realised you're supposed to change them so often. I've had my machine since Christmas - am I due a change? I don't use it as often as some of you do!

Embarked on my long-dreamed-up project of turning an old pair of trousers into a sausage-dog draught excluder last night, taking longer than I thought but so far it's pretty much how I'd envisioned it! :D

    Hi everyone,

Hope it's ok to pop my head in :) I bought my first sewing machine a couple of weeks ago and finally seem to have mastered sewing in a straight line ;)

I don't have any pictures, but I'm quite chuffed with some of the stuff I've managed to make (simple things like cushion covers and a little drawstring pouch for jewellery... oh and I'm totally rocking the sock monkeys now!)

Anyway, just wanted to say hi and that I'm in awe of some of the things you guys are making. I'd love to make some of the beautiful bags and things, but I don't think I'm quite that proficient yet (only just worked out how to wind the bobbin ;))
    Nobody I'd rather be ;)

Shooping in sainsburys the other week they had duvet covers reduced to £3.50 (single). There was a boy stars one & girls pink/turq spotted one so you'd get lots of makes out of those. Primark are good for bedding to chop up too.
  • Found this website - http://www.online-fabrics.co.uk/ - they have polycotton fabrics, lots of eally bright colours and nice designs for only £1.75 a metre. Postage is £5.95 which is steep but if you buy enough it makes it a great offer. Have just ordered 10 metres - loving the patterns. :D

  • I've been buying fabric at Mostyn's (Curtain fabric usually) at £3.99 a metre. They tend to have a "junk box" too - which is off cuts and old curtains for the princely sum of 50p each.

Hope you're all as lucky x
