  • The fabric stiffner is that stuff you buy on a role by the metre. You can buy it in different thicknesses and you just iron it onto the back of your fabric. Sorry I don't know the technical term for it. I got mine at Boyes:D

I think the technical term is 'interfacing' ;):D
    Hi Frenchgirl
I'm no expert on machines but that sounds fine for a beginner. My machine was about £80 and just does the basics in fact I don't think it has that many stitches. I think if you can get it for £49 in the sale then I would go for it:D

I second that - the only advice I'd give to a beginner is to make sure you get a machne with an instrution booklet (if it's second-hand I mean) - I really struggled with my older machine (Dusty!) but am flying with the new one. Good luck with it!
OMG, not sure which thread I should belong to as I've been sewing but it's for christmas. Done my very first morsbag, love it! Also a heart hanger, you think they should be scented? How would you do this?

Hi Sparklygirl, I have this plan in my head which hasn't quite yet materialised of making some little cat shaped hangers with lavender in - I got quite a big bag of dried lavender in Past Times for about £3.40 - I was thinking of just popping a sprinkle of that in with the stuffing ... ??

Oh let me know how you do cat ones when you do, my Mum would love a few of them. past times, good idea. I was gonna wait till after Summer and gather lavender from garden but think this will have to be for next year now. I can't wait that long. No past times local to me, might look on ebay!
I've just done my second sock money and want to make a small morsbag for my little girl, if this goes well could do little ones for the kids I will be giving sock monkeys to, so all goodies can sit inside!
I couldn't sleep last night thinking of all the things I can make, so sad I know. Has anyone got any good sewing ideas for men?
Another idea I have is bunting with name on, would be a lovely birthday gift as well!

I buy my lavender from Herbal Moon ( I think thats the name anyway) on Ebay.

Eeek just ordered a few bits on Ebay for crafting and have a few books in my Amazon basket - Itty Bitty Nursery ( knitting) a cross stitch book and a book on knitting bears - just deciding if I should treat myself???

Just been googling cat shapes - there aren`t many images but came across this doorstep and thought the design could be scaled down to make some cat hangers.

This is a cute little cat shape that could be adapted...
