What about writing KP on yer stuff with biro, I can never get biro off the childrens clothes:D0 -
You can get pens that are permanent on fabric and write a personal message.
On the subject of labels, what I've done on small wall hanging type quilts that I've actually finished was sew two sides of the label on the back when attaching the binding, cutting down on sewing.
I also read somewhere that if you take a large square of material and fold it diagonally into a triangle, you can use this as your label and if you do 2, you can put a small dowel rod between them and use them for hanging the quilt. Of course, I came across these tips after I'd finished the items so I've never tried it.0 -
stardrops42 hello:hello: my goodness you are talented -I love the things you made for the grandbaby. I used to use my sewing machine years and years ago and now I hate you :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: you make me want to start again and I already have loads of other projects that need finishing:o but I am going to try to keep up with this thread and would also like to make things for Christmas - will really need to start soon or I will never get them done - I am always worried that my gifts would not be good enough (Blue Peter attempts I call them:o) but maybe with a lot of help from here I will make some nice things this year.
I would like to make a quilt, 2 taggies, handbags, a door curtain (I have the material for that and should manage it) cushions for the kitchen chairs - thats just for starters:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
must get the material bits looked at
must get the knitting projects finished
good luck to you all
toots xxPeace will be mine
could do better - must try harder

Well I've finally got around to some de-cluttering, at first it was all to be given to charity shop ..... then decided to keep it and car-boot (hoping to raise a few pennies) ...... and now (THANKS TO THIS THREAD) I'm thinking how can I part with all this material ie. curtains, quilts, clothes ..... it could all be used to make something else ......... somehow I don't think the de-cluttering is going to happen :rotfl:A creative mess is better than tidy idleness0

I went to tesco today and they had a sewing machine (19 stitches) I can not remember the make. it was £49 reduced from £90. I am a beginner with no real experience with sewing machines. I wondered if anyone had any advice on what I should look for in a machine. Any tips would be appreciated.I do not want to be a dress maker but use the machine for making cushions for christmas presents for friends. Thank you.
Just realised this may be in the wrong place I was trying to start a new thread but not that good on the computer! sorry!!0 -
I`ve been having real trouble getting hold of dolls hair to finish off my Tilda Bedroom Angel. I`ve seen the hair on some websites but begrudge paying over £3 delivery for something so small & light plus no local shops stock it !!
Anyway i`ve ordered some wool hair from ebay in 2 different colours for £1.20 each, postage cost £1.20 ( should be 85p per item but got discount )
Will report when it comes ! lol
Anyone having to duplicate stuff for cheaper ?0 -

I got the "proper" Tilda hair for the bedroom angel but I wouldn't bother again. Honestly I thought it was just like wool, I couldn't see any differenceIt's like that wool that you can get with flecks in, sorry I'm not a knitter so don't know the correct name;)I will have a look on the net and see if I can find a picture of the wool that I'm talking about.

I've just been looking for exactly the same thing! Is that the wensleydale wool that you have ordered? I was going to try either that or I did read on a blog that someone had used a knitting yarn (think it was a boucle type yarn). My angel is all stitched and waiting to be stuffed but have nothing to dress her in yet either!!
Please let me know how you get on!
