  • I know every time I have to pay a fine I always swear I will not return them late again but I always do;) I could have bought quite a few books with the money I've paid:D

I had a go at making some slippers tonight............ urrrm well, they weren't great:rotfl:I think the woman who wrote the Sew Pretty book must have Hobbit feet! They were so small! Well actually I only made one slipper before I lost the will to live. The outside sole of the slipper also ended up on the inside and for some reason the slipper is now reversible:rotfl:Here is a pic if you fancy a laugh:D

Your slipper looks great, I looked at the instructions in the book and was baffled!
Where did you buy the iron on fabric stiffener?

I`ve just been looking on a website www.notonthehighstreet.com and i`m amazed at the prices of homemade stuff on there!
For instance a fabric doorstop is £35 !!! but the thing is i bought a book from amazon this week Free and Easy Stitch Style by Poppy Teffry and it has the instructions for more or less the same thing , plus other things that are on the site !!
I think i`m going to be making some lol

I was baffled as well! that's why the outside sole ended up on the inside and believe me if you saw it close up.........:rotfl: The fabric stiffner is that stuff you buy on a role by the metre. You can buy it in different thicknesses and you just iron it onto the back of your fabric. Sorry I don't know the technical term for it. I got mine at Boyes:D

Once this snow clears I am planning on getting out and buying some supplies.

Im wanting to add a label to say its mine (well I made it) im looking for a ribbon type thing that I can fold over in half and sew into the seam of say a makeup bag for example, so that you can see it from the outisde.... am I making any sense?

Anyhow, do you know where I can buy these reasonable, do any of you add your own labels to your makes?

Anyway I was wondering about embroidering (if that's the right word) spots in a regaular pattern over the quilt to hold the wadding to the 'cover'. Not sure what it's called but am sure someone will know. Do you think that will work OK?
    Thanks!
    Tracey.
There is a technique like this to make tied quilts. You could google it, but basically you need to take one large stitch through all three layers leaving 2" at the end of the thread, and then bring the needle back up through all three layers so you have one big stitch holding the three layers together. Cut the other end so it is also 2" long. Tie in a reef knot (right over left, left over right).

You can do these ties in a matching or a contrasting colour and if you are making the quilt from squares it would probably look good with a tie at each corner of the squares.

I know what I mean, but not very good at describing it!:o

I reckon if you google fabric name labels (like those you sew into childrens school clothes), you will find something fairly cheap. You could ask for the name to be to the right of the label and fold in half and sew into a seam for a real levis/kidston designer look.

i've seen what you mean, you can order the standard ones off the net saying the usual "handmade by blah" or you can make your own (which i've never done!) you get the ribbon, i presume white would be the best, then make a design yourself on your computer which you then have to reverse, cos you print it out on "transfer paper"..which you then iron onto your ribbon, which gives you a more personalised design tag..but thats as much as i know! but i hope that made sense:D
    totally a tog!:D

I've had ones from there but I found them a bit too rigid to fold over and sew in seams. I think you are better off with the silky ones :D Saying that I wanted them for sock monkeys so they might be ok for what you want them for.
