Still playing catch up
shirlgirl2004 your starter pack is great - lucky you.
Kevie192 - re your comments about registering self employed, insurance etc. If I work full time, pay tax etc would I still need to register self employed and if so with this not cause problems with my employer. Also would I still need to do this and get insurance if I sold stuff on Etsy / Ebay?
Tete - love your sewing machine names :rotfl:and your sock cat is brilliant.
23rdspiral - Hoot is gorgeous - I especially like his beak.
Stardrops - how cute is Marvin's face
positivelymummy - "charm squares" ?
Kandipandi - love your sock monkey0 -

I also bought the carry bag to put it in, which also fits my other bits. Its not too heavy though which I was suprised at and it sews a treat!
Thanks, Kandipandi, that's exactly the sort of info I was hoping for! You're a star!
I'll be heading to Argos then (as soon as I can actually travel through all the snow!!!).
Still lovin' this thread- so many good ideas.Conquering the debts one penny at a time.....0 -

It won`t affect your employer if you register self employed for selling crafts.
The best people to contact are your local trading standards to see what the requirements are.... its not scary.
Also make sure you keep all receipts for materials and keep a record of things you can possibly deduct ie small percentage for electricity/heating/depreciation of computer etc.
Public Liability insurance can be bought online to cover you at craft fairs/ craft parties etc.
Trading standards do visit craft fairs so make sure all of your items are clearly labelled.
Remember if you are a SAHM your personal tax allowance is £6475. So as long as your profit after deductions for materials/ bills etc is under this then you are fine for tax. Just make sure you still keep all your records in order- create excel spreadsheets and use a concertina folder with sections in for reciepts etc.

I know every time I have to pay a fine I always swear I will not return them late again but I always do;) I could have bought quite a few books with the money I've paid:D
I had a go at making some slippers tonight............ urrrm well, they weren't great:rotfl:I think the woman who wrote the Sew Pretty book must have Hobbit feet! They were so small! Well actually I only made one slipper before I lost the will to live. The outside sole of the slipper also ended up on the inside and for some reason the slipper is now reversible:rotfl:Here is a pic if you fancy a laugh:DFeb GC £80 per week (Well I'm gunna try:whistle:)

Good evening! Wonder if you guys can help me - I've decided to make a quilt type thingie (technical term!!) for my friend's new baby. The idea is it's for the floor for her to play on. Anyhow I've made a lovely 3ft square which I've stuffed with wadding. So far so good. I really don't think my machine skills are up to proper 'quilting' yet - am OK ish at srtaight lines but not good enough.
Anyway I was wondering about embroidering (if that's the right word) spots in a regaular pattern over the quilt to hold the wadding to the 'cover'. Not sure what it's called but am sure someone will know. Do you think that will work OK?
Thanks!

Stardrops I think your slipper (just the one lol!) looks really nice.

I think it is too, its nicer than the ones im wearing! Have you made them out of the fleece from your baby blankets? Fleece slippers would be mega cosy
Traceylou - I think thats a lovely idea, but I would make sure that you machine stitch it all the way round the outiside (in straight lines) to fix both the top/bottom and wadding and then you can hand stitch patterns in the middle to fix it futher.
You will have to post us a picture once it's finished. You can stand there and agonize........
Till your agony's your heaviest load. (Emily Saliers)0
