I went to tesco today and they had a sewing machine (19 stitches) I can not remember the make. it was £49 reduced from £90. I am a beginner with no real experience with sewing machines. I wondered if anyone had any advice on what I should look for in a machine. Any tips would be appreciated.I do not want to be a dress maker but use the machine for making cushions for christmas presents for friends. Thank you.

Just realised this may be in the wrong place I was trying to start a new thread but not that good on the computer! sorry!!

    Hi Frenchgirl

I'm no expert on machines but that sounds fine for a beginner. My machine was about £80 and just does the basics in fact I don't think it has that many stitches. I think if you can get it for £49 in the sale then I would go for it:D

I've just been looking for exactly the same thing! Is that the wensleydale wool that you have ordered? I was going to try either that or I did read on a blog that someone had used a knitting yarn (think it was a boucle type yarn ). My angel is all stitched and waiting to be stuffed but have nothing to dress her in yet either!!
Please let me know how you get on!

    Hi sparklygirl

I've just bought a book called "sew green" and it has the morse bags in it. Are they easy to make? I'm not sure what a heart hanger is:confused: Do you have a pic?

Thanks Stardrops, can't find the colour I'm looking for from a uk site. Think I'll wait to see how Nuttywoman gets on.

Nuttywoman, I'd love to see you dolls with the Colinette hair!!

    Thanks

Yes they are easy. I can't do much more than a straight line on my machine and it works. Erm heart hangers, I'm probably making the name up but something like this http://www.heartlandfarm.co.uk/Fabric_Heart_Hangers.html

oh I see :D I think if you want to scent them I would maybe just put a couple of drops of scented oil on them but you have to be careful with the oil as it can sometimes stain the fabric or you could make a little lavender filled pouch to go inside them:D
