The Sewing Room
Comments
-
:rotfl:Hi All
I know its late in the day but could I join in ?
I have an ancient sewing machine from my mum (although very sentimental because she got it for her 18th)
I have semi successfully made so far
patchwork quilt (sort of kingsize ish)
numerous cushions (so much so that DH is permenetly grumbling about his ongoing vendetta against them)
a slightly (ok very) wonky roman blind
an attempt at a sock dog - and well to be frank no animal should suffer like that even if they are made out of peacocks socks :rotfl:
the plans are
3 more patchwork quilts (due to requests from mil, dn and a need for one for the spare room)
shabby chic hearts
bolster cushion mini
handbag organiser for me and friend
rucksack organiser for DH
and several random projects that swim through my mind occasionally.
I will confess to having a slight obsession - and truly have an illness where buying fabric is concerned - ironically I work as an addiction worker!!!!!!!!:D
I have a couple of questions if you lovely people dont mind?
errr what does a zig zag foot look like? and the what does the stitch look like? inherited machine does mean no instructions and many blank stares - sorry if these are really silly questions
I have stuck to bogstandard stitch so far
phew - sorry rather waffled on there!!!
*wanders away sheepishly*
oooh though P.S your projects are fantastic

:rotfl: also give your bobbin casing a brush out every now and then
Sorry this whole sentence makes no sense to meparticularly the bit about the static???
:o
Where the thread from the needle and the bobbin are together by the teeth(not sure if that makes any better sence lol) my machine makes these stick to my hand when I pull it to the back so a bit static or it could just be me (not that Im move fast enough to charge up that much static lol)

A zig zag foot looks like this

and when sewn it looks a bit like this /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
You can alter the width of the stitch and also change how close the stitches are sewn together. It is handy for decorative things and also for neatening raw edges.
You aren't the only one to have an "illness" where fabric is concerned, I think there are a few other people on here, myself included who have quite a fabric stash.0 -
My fabric addiction is getting out of hand :rotfl: I had some beautiful fabric come this morning from the wonderful fancy moon that kind Kandipandi put on her blog
Im still trying to find some time to do some sewing :rotfl: but then again I have lots of nice fabric to hold and rearrange till then :rotfl:Getting myself sorted 1 day/1thing at a timeand Love sewing

The problem I'm having is storing and organising all my fabric!
I'v commandeered the spare room for sewing which has fitted wardrobes with shelves. One of the cupboard is now full of fabric and lining and interfacing and tissue paper and thread and stuffing and books and rulers and so on and so forth. Trouble is its kinda just shoved in, ideally I would have it colour organised by fabric type (I can be a bit of a control freak at times!) but don't know how to start doing that! I would need loads of boxes to organise everything!
What does everyone else do?0 -
I have a 3 drawer chest that I got from a CS then done up also I have some clear boxes under my sewing desk + I brought some pretty gift bags from a card shop for 99p I put the smaller pieces in them and they look nice on my shelf, I still have to dig about for my fabric though as I have so much
I also have a basket fetish which hold all my other bitsGetting myself sorted 1 day/1thing at a timeand Love sewing

euripidesralph I am also a fabric addict, I am usually very careful with money but sense just goes out of the window when there is fabric I want.
Hart - I would love to see what you got from Fabric Moon, I love thier stuff! I just made a couple of things from my Folk Dolls Fabric from there, they are not finished yet but I will post them when they are.You can stand there and agonize........

Not as gorgous as Fabric Rehab but half the price! I am going to attempt 3 patchwork blankets for my Neices' Christmas Pressies0
