I bought the BC2100 from these people:

    http://www.sewingmachines.co.uk/brotherbc2100_info.htm.

Had no problems with delivery as I am BFPO and the free threads/scissors etc are fab. Check out the deal on the ES2020 £159
same spec as the B2100 but has the needle threader. I was going to get that one but the offer had ended, but very happy with my purchase so far.

just curious- I have the bc2100 and it does have a needle threader did you mean the es2020 dosnt have one?

From what I can see the BC2100 has the needle threader and the ES2020 hasn't.:o

What do you think of your 2100 danables?

Hi, i'd like to start sewing but have no idea where to start. I've got projects in mind that i'd like to do including making simple clothes for my dd and for me and a few things for the house. I know nothing about sewing machines but need to find one and don't want to spend alot. I'd be really grateful if someone could point me in the right direction to get me started. Thanks :)

Yes corrected myself on my last comment on the previous page. I had been looking at both machines and forgot which model I had. Good job I still know where I live.

    Hi Raggy Doll

Dont know about machines, but if you go back through this thread there are various recommendations for machines - just dont buy from Coopers.

For beginning sewing, lots of ladies on this thread have made the girls lazy day skirt & some of the other patterns from the Oliver and S website. There are lots of free bag patterns if you try googling and many "experts" on here to help if you get stuck along the way.

I was about to suggest the lazy day skirt too!

I have a sewing machine question seeing as so many people seemed quite technically-minded yesterday. Mine is a brand new (xmas) quite expensive Singer, and sometimes when I press the pedal, the needle doesn't start moving straight away and the machine makes a loud humming noise, until I press the pedal harder and then it hammers away really fast for a few stitches til I ease my foot off a bit and then it's OK. Is it just that I'm pressing a bit too gingerly? It's really very loud and disconcerting so if I can fix it I will! Any ideas?!

Hi Tete, my machine did that a few times (mines a new cheapy from Tesco lol) and I found out I was not straightening the thread (laying it back) through static before starting and it was getting a bit muddled at the beginning, also I give it the teeth a brush every so oftern as loads of fabric fluff gets in it. You could try that :D
Getting myself sorted 1 day/1thing at a time :) and Love sewing :)

I have 2 very old machines which do something similar and I find it helpful to give the wheel a little turn as you press on the pedal, my mother (who the machines belonged to) said it was to stop the motor straining, dunno if this is true but it seems to help

    still haven't got anything done..........
