Can anyone help with sewing machine needles?

I have a JMB sewing machine SSM1010 and I bought some "universal" needles from eBay

    They don't fit the machine!:o

Does anyone know where I can find out what size needles my machine needs please?:D

Are you trying it the right way around, machine needles have a flat part which faces backwards.

    This might help http://sewing.about.com/od/sewingmachineindex/ig/Sewing-Machine-Needles/

I've tried them in all ways round.......they go in about 2-3mm and won't go any further. I've got the screw that holds it in loose as well (that was what my OH asked!)

Hart I'm jealous, that's exactly the sort of box I'm after! How lovely that it's your gran's though.

Jennie, that playmat is so lovely, and sophisticated enough to use for something else later ... not sure exactly what though!

Thanks Pootle, it was pretty easy, I even lined mine and it turned out fine :D

Tete the apron is lovely and a wonderful gift to give with the cupcake book. I may steal that idea, if I may!

Jennieshrew the playmat is really unique, love it. I have a few babies in the family so I should make some more kids' stuff really. I made my great niece (great?! how old do I sound!!) a little taggie style little blankie. I'm reliably informed that she cannot bear to be parted from it, I'm so pleased that she likes it.

Just found a photo of it (sorry it's a bit big!):

so excited - am jumping up and down - nearly!!!! My friend has been to craft club here tonight - and when I opened the door I greeted her with I NEED YOU - please can you help = it has taken her an hour and a half to sort the machine out - the winder on the top was jammed and in loosening it the metal spool had gone out of shape and thats what was in the machine - the thread wasnt going around the tension disc correctly and we changed the needle as well - lots and lots of adjusting and coaxing and we are there - the winder on the top still sticks terribly so have wound onto the metal spool by hand. I have almost completed my bunting but have run out of triangles so thought I would sit and cut some more out now they have all left for the evening but I just had to come on and tell you all - thanks for your help earlier - much appreciated. She is going to come back on Thursday evening and give me a sewing lesson - she is a member of the embroidery guild and to be honest there isnt many crafts she cant do - so jealous - me I am a beginner at most things but hey ho - I am enjoying myself - esp now the machine is getting better - lol - thanks so much everyone

BTW I love the bird play mat its lovely

  • Hi all,

I've just picked up a tapestry kit. I'm an utter beginner and wondered if any of you on here had any experience?

Its the Anchor Starter kit of a cat. The instructions said I needed a frame, and couldn't use my embroidery hoop, so I'm waiting for that to arrive (I need a sitting down hobby, I've had to give up gardening due to a bad back).

Anyway, any advice would be most welcome.

Also, I've noticed a lot of comments along the lines that cross-stitchers seem to prefer DMC to Anchor. Can anyone tell me why the preference?

    Many thanks.

    Evening

Just wondering if anyone has ever bought anything from this company?

    http://www.sewingmachinediscount.co.uk/

Just rung to place an order and when I queried a price as the advert was a bit misleading, the guy hung up on me shocked.gif Rang back and asked why and he said that he didn't want to supply me and to buy somewhere else shocked.gifshocked.gifshocked.gif

Was looking at the Brother XR6600. They have it on offer at the moment and it says 10% deducted at checkout. There is also a banner offering EXTRA 10% if you use a code. I simply rang the orderline because the site wouldn't accept my card details although I know they are right. I asked for clarification of the 10% and he hung up on me shocked.gifHowever, they are the best price, and offer a 15 year guarantee which includes a free annual service. Looks too good to be true, so maybe it is wink.gif
