When my machine does what you describe it is usually because it needs a new needle or I have put the needle in wrong.
With the threading have you got the thread through the long lever that lays in the slot at the front of the machine? There is usually a hole the thread goes through before it then comes down again. I was always told to remember down up down for how the thread on a sewing machine should go.
I can't see the thread very well in the picture to see where it goes. It should come from the back along the length of the machine then to the front then down to the tension springs, round the circular dial catching in the tension spring before it then goes right up to the top again and through the hole in the lever and then back down to the needle.
In the picture I can see you have the first bit of threading right but I can't see where it goes after the tension dial. I hope this makes sense.0 -
thank you will go and have a look but fairly sure it goes down up then down - it seems to start off ok for couple of stitches on test piece - not tight - well snug on one side of fabric but loose on other then within seconds - its just holes and no thread0

I havent got a book - and I dont know what model this is to be able to start looking online for one - anyone recognise her???0

Not sure danemi. When you say holes and no thread, is there thread in the needle after you notice its not stitching or has the thread come out? Have you played around with the tension and tested it on various settings? x0

That sounds like the tension is wrong - the threads should be flat on both sides. Have you adjusted the tension wheel?0 -

That is gorgeous Japanese fabric. I love the gingham too - it's a very unusual one.0 -

That sounds like tension to me too. Make sure the thread is properly into the tension dial. There are probably two metal discs the thread should go between and then make sure thread is in the wire hook if there is one.
What you describe would happen to me on one of my machines if it needed a new needle or I had put the needle in slightly wrong. It also could well be tension related.
Another thing to try if you haven't already is a different reel of thread. Every so often I get a reel of thread that for some reason my machine takes exception to.0 -
Hello all, hope you girls get sorted with your machines, I'm afraid I can't offer any advice as my machine is new and has luckily not faltered yet. I used to want to kill myself trying to use my grandma's old Singer with no manual!
Pootle your dress is lovely but I agree it does need a bit of something at the waist to creat a bit of interest. Belts are easy to make and would draw the fabric in a bit.
I'm just back from a weekend in London with my best girlfriends. I made this apron for one girl's birthday, to go with a cupcake book, and she loved it. I actually had to say 'I made it you know' because no-one guessed so I was pretty pleased with that! It's from one of the recent Sew magazines.
Another friend who is a fashion designer for a big high street chain brought along a big bag of fabric for me which was getting thrown out, I have a lovely red wool type fabric which I might try and make a coat with, and some lovely dress fabrics too. We went round Spitalfields Market and Brick Lane yesterday so I'm full of ideas after looking at the vintage and handmade items. It was interesting to see cushion covers and the like being sold for £12, when I know for a fact that the fabric is only £10 p/m from some of the online shops we all useWeightloss: 14.5/65lb0
