A while ago I purchased some cushion cover fabric, it's in various colours, blue, burgandy & gray, some of it is embroidered some of it is plain. I've picked out a few of the plain pieces along with some thick embroidery thread I was given & dug out my book on Dorset feather stitch & this will be my first project when school breaks up.

I am sure your niece will love the bag.

What about putting a vertical dart each side of the back of the dress. The sort with two points, one at the top and one at the bottom with the widest part of the dart in the centre. I have a shift dress with darts like that in the back and it makes all the difference. Put the dart in so the widest bit falls at the waist.

My hexi-patchwork (pics on blog) has all been done from fabric I've already got - none of it purchased - either donated or stuff I've gained via freecycle........one woman offered me a black sack of stuff suitable for patchwork, I was like a kid in a sweetshop when I got it home.
