Hello all, just catching up a bit with the thread after a holiday, don't think I've shown you the maxi dress I made myself before I went away:

    4732736917_d35f08a822_m.jpg

Alas, I finished it in a bit of a rush so I could take it away, then when I got there I didn't want to wear it as it still needs some adjustments, but never mind, hopefully I'll feel in the mood to alter it sometime soon.

In the middle of making an apron for a friend's birthday (to go with a cupcake recipe book) - it's the one that was in Sew magazine a couple of issues ago. I added a lining myself and am really pleased with how it's turning out so far ... watch this space.

NatC - love those boxes, what a lovely OH you have! I've been after a vintage cantilever sewing box, and asked my granny if she still had hers, she didn't but took it upon herself to buy me a brand new one from Argos. Bless her, but it's not what I wanted at all, it has no soul! And can't fit much in either. I mentioned this to OH's mam and she went out and bought me the most battered old thing you can imagine from a flea market and I was over the moon! OH thinks we're both mental, but don't they say that all men end up marrying their mothers? :D

:rotfl:I know! Its the old - ness (if thats even a word!) of it, and loved it coz it came with all sorts of little bits and bobs in it that i still havent fully looked through! I know, i love him to bits, bless him, how lovley, and i felt awful coz i didnt bring him a surprise back! I wasnt going to buy him any tools though! Thats what hes always into at CBs - i wouldnt have a clue!!! hahaha.

I absolutley love your dress btw - ive just got a couple of patterns from simplicity similar - or maybe the same as the one you have there. Im actually dreading doing it as ive never tried using a pattern before. DOne a little bit on the course ive been doing, a skirt, but wasnt in depth enough for me and was rushed, so im none the wiser!

yes love that dress Tete - it looks great, what pattern did you use?

Ah thank you, it's New Look 6557 - which isn't a maxi dress, I just sort of guessed at how to lengthen it and I think the overall shape looks OK!

Tete, your dress looks lovely. What's making you not want to wear it?

Thanks again, I'm pleased with it overall, it's just a little bit too big around the torso and needs pulling in, and the hem is a bit of a mess, I had real trouble when it came to sewing the skirt pieces as they're such long lines (I'm 6ft!) and I was using a very flimsy fabric AND lining it, so there are places where the fabric seems baggy on top of the lining if that makes sense! :o

Getting there with my friend's pinny, though my machine played up a bit last night and I had to have the unpicker out. Hope to have something to show you shortly!

Nat, I love things that have a history, I think it comes from reading The importance of Being Earnest, where what's-her-name-the-nanny is reunited with her handbag and says 'Oh yes, this is the stain from such-and-such', I like scars for the same reason, I like things to tell a story! :o

Tete - Love the dress, it looks very expensive! .....can I ask though (not dress related) but in one of your photos there's a cat laying on what I assume is a duvet cover - trees and birds and browns and greens....it's gorgeous - where's it from?

Have finally finished some crochet that I've been doing for the past month (pics elsewhere) so looking forward to my next project...think I need to go gaze at my fabric stash and wait for inspiration to strike.

Hello - I haven't posted before on this thread and wonder whether anyone can give advice? Not strictly sewing I know but - I have some old millinery silk flowers which I want to use on a straw hat. They are very crushed - does anyone know how to revitalise them without them going all limp?

tete I have bought that pattern also & wondered if I could make it into a maxi dress! but having only made one pattern (a child's top) before, I wouldnt know where to start! It also has a zip so I need to buy a zipper foot before I get started on that pattern, although I have the purple 70's duvet cover sitting there waiting.

That pattern has lots of great reviews on http://sewing.patternreview.com/Patterns/11697

Little owl am not sure but if you dont get any response on here I would suggest either starting a thread in Special occasions or starting one in Old Style Moneysaving. Maybe someone on the flylady thread might be able to help you. x
