Oh I do hope someone is on line and can help the dunce in the corner here - aka me
I cannot sew for toffee but I really want to learn = I have a jones machine that is probably about 40 or 50 years old - have treated myself to some gingham from laura ashley and some fabric from dunhelm - and together with some bias binding thought I would make some bunting - have done really well and cut lots of triangles out ready and folded the binding and pressed it - allr eady to go - nwo the difficult part - going near the sewing machine I am sure it doesnt like me - I really want to conquer this - but always seem to fall at the first hurdle with it - I spent all last night trying and it just kept jamming up = thought I had threaded it wrong - so got pal today to check it and no its fune - what I hadnt done right is getting the thread from the spool under the machine to come up and meet the thread from the spool above - my friend did it for me and it seemed ok - after she went I did the triangles (cutting out) sat down about 8 to sew and it all went wrong again - I CANNOT get the thread from under to come up and the whole things keeps jamming and jamming - please pelase can anyone help?????? Thanks in advance xxx0 -

I dont really know much about machines but have you tried fiddling with the tension to see if that helps? Does it work ok if you use your wheel to pull the thread up from your spool before you start sewing?0 -
Are you holding the thread that goes through the needle and then slowly turning so the needle goes down and then up again once? Theoretically as the needle comes up it should bring the bobbin thread up.0

I need to repair some jeans, inner thigh!!!!
I have borrowed a roll of what I thought would be double sided iron on interfacing but it appears not to be,
It's a roll much like plastic ( think heavy duty cling film ) with many dots on the reverse ( I assume this is the glue)
I have done a dummy run, & the sticky is only the dotted side. The other side remains the thick plastic. Do I leave this on & repair as usual or must I peel this off the patch & then sew onto the garment?
I know my mum has the double sided stuff & she said this was it but I am not sure that it is.
I know this is very vague but any ideas?
Thanks0 -
Ah thanks everyone for your lovely comments, you've inspired me to alter the bloomin thing so I can wear it! Tamster, the only part I lengthened was the skirt and I think it looks and fits ok. To lengthen, I cut the skirt pieces in half and added paper in the middle, leaving the cicumference of the skirt the same as it would have been at knee length, it seems to have worked ok! The pattern was good to work with actually (it was the fabric that was the trouble!) the only bit I got stuck with was sewing the interfaced piece into the back but I worked it out eventually.
Pooky - yes, my lovely duvet cover! I love it to bits, it's a Ronit Zilka one I got from TK Maxx a while back so can't give you any clues to where you might get one similar I'm afraid!Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0
