Hi again everyone!
Slight change of plan, as my friend who is teaching me can't do Friday, so it's moved to next Friday, so in the meantime I am going to an absolute beginners class on Tuesday to get some of the basics sorted so I don't look (as) silly in front of my friend next Friday!
I'm going here:

And I am learning to make a clutch purse. Exciting!!!! :T
Sarahjovi - I loved your bag
sm1971 - the little bean bag was fab! Maybe when I get a bit more advanced I can make one for my youngest niece.
Kandipandi - Your cushion is so pretty! How long did it take you to make?
I have been looking at some of the links to Ebay for fabric - do you all generally find that this is a cheaper way to get fabric than buying from farbic shops such as John Lewis or local ones? (Maybe it depends where you live!) I went to John Lewis the other evening and spent time wandering round their haberdashery department - heaven! But I resisted! I am waiting until I have some skills first and then I will decide on my first solo project.
I head home at the end of the month for 5 days and my Mum has said she'd be delighted to teach me some basic hand sewing techniques...I think she's pretty inspired to start sewing again!
Hope everyone is having a good day!
Jo
I once bought some material from an online store, either remnant house or croft mill. It was a two tone fabric with a sparkly effect that was a suitable weight for trousers/skirts etc. I paid a maximum of £4 a metre for it and later on saw the same fabric which was identical apart from the colour in John Lewis for about £13 a metre.
I save a huge amount of money by buying my fabric online. I rarely buy fabric any other way now.
There are certainly some bargains to be had by buying online but the downside is you can't see colours or handle the fabric first. The places that will send small samples are good. Remnant house is one company that will send small samlpes if you ask for them.

i really like the texture changes with the denimn.Relax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23. Frugal Living Challenger. No buying cleaning products. I used MSE advice to reduce my car insurance from 550 to 325!! & paid it off in full!!!0 -

I'd better not tell you about this one then.:D

I buy a lot of the fabric for my daughters prom type/fancy dresses from there.
What I like about both sites is the set postage charge no matter how much you spend. Fabric is heavy and if you have to pay actual cost it can soon add up if you buy a heavy fabric or a lot.0 -
need to pick your brains ladies.
i've made a patchwork table running for the dinning table. but i wanted to make it paddded. but only just ever so slightly padded. whats the thinest padding/wadding type stuff i can buy please for using with patchwork ?
thanks in advance0 -

is 2oz wadding the thinest. it says it about 5mm thick, so would that be very thin when sewn on patchwork ? sorry if not sounding right. i know what i'm trying to say but not sure how it worded. i don't still fully understand all the sewing terms,lol.0 -

You could use interfacing which will make it slightly more stiffer? I'm not sure, maybe someone more knowledgeable will be able to help. I really must read my lovely new sewing book which I've just been given. It's got loads in it and I've got loads to learn!Cos I don't shine if you don't shine.0 -
