Morning all hope you are all ok. Ordered some fabric from this site www.fivevalleysdesigns.com two days ago and it is here already. They have 40% off as i think they are closing down. There are some lovely fabrics so worth a look.

Just made a scented england heart. i have put a pic on my blog here http://scratchycatcrafter.blogspot.com/2010/06/come-on-england.html if anyone wants a peek.

thanks were are you getting your lavender from?

Danables - Love that door stop - the fabric is gorgeous.

Kandi - Great coaster - I spotted some small bits of fabric in my stash earlier that would be ideal for those....I shall have to pop it on the list.

Today I faffed.....I brought a new fold-up wooden framed sewing bag at a bootfair for £1 the other day - was brand new but the cover was hideous so today was the day to make a new cover - easier said than done and I did over complicate things by making it patchwork....but am pleased with the result...

I then went on to have a play with shirring elastic and made this for DD1....was a bit of fabric I salvaged from an old nightdress but she's really pleased with it.....DD2 has just been rummaging through to see what fabric she'd like hers done in! I can see I'm going to be busy!

Pooky I love the shirring dress Iv not had a got at that before, and would love to give it a try, do you have a pattern? Also loving the sewing bag cover, you should start a blog your makes are great!

Can anyone give me any tips on what to stuff scented hearts with apart from lavender? One of my friends wants me to make her a few but she doesnt like the smell of lavender. Ive never made one before so not really too sure where to start. I have wadding but wasnt sure if you just buy scented oil or if you should use dried stuff as well as wadding? Also do you sew your ribbon into the heart as you are stitching it up or do you add it at the end? Thanks guys. x

i've just made my dd a lazy day skirt. took about 40 mins. i'm very chuffed. i showed my little girl lots of pics and she chose the design she wanted. she wanted it really plain and simple. so i made it plain pink with a polka dot trim. it is below knee length. My little girl is poorly so i made it as a surprise while she is asleep. will post a pic later once she's tried it on.

Hi, I have just found this thread and it is great - really enjoying reading it.

My dad bought me a reconditioned Singer sewing machine 42 years ago for £45 and it is still going strong. Over the years it has saved me so much money, I used to sew all my clothes including wedding dress, coats, jackets, pjs, childrens clothes etc etc. But over the years I have become lazy (or maybe it's just that I now work full time) and mostly alter clothes to fit perfectly, make curtains, cushions etc.

But, reading this thread is putting me in the mood to do some proper dressmaking again. Look what you've started !!!

Will pop in again and let you know how I'm doing

    Happy sewing.
I have owned 4 sewing machines over the last 50 years. By far the best was a Singer Ferturer which was bought for £500 in 1980, it lasted 27 years and i was heart broken when it it was sent to where all goog sewing machines end up.:A I have a Toyota now.

Almond, Ive been trawling through internet since I last posted and found this link suggesting that you can use scented rice.

    http://www.themotherhuddle.com/heart-sachet-or-air-freshner/

Also found this link which gives some alternatives such as cinnamon and cloves. Would still be keen to know if anyone here uses anything else though.

I think this is the one people refer to when they say the lazy days skirt.
