Alys i've been going to classes, but there are some good books out there and theres lots of free patterns and how to's on the internet, I have a lovely book at the moment from the library by Jane Brocket,

I would get some books from your library first and see what designs you like and how clear the instructions are, as to equipment, you need 100% cotton fabric, I cut mine with sissors to begin with, but they do recommend an imperial cutting board, ruler and rotary cutter other basics are pins, cotton and a sharp pencil, you can get starter packs such as this one.

Wow you have all been busy :T I love what you have all made, very inspiring  I have some pretty fabric in my ebay basket from favouritefabrics so i'm glad you posted its good quality hart.
Kandi I wondered what the pretty backing on your clips was, using playing cards was inspired :T
I bought a metre of supersoft fleece on the weekend, i'm not sure what to do with it now, I don't have little ones, but I couldn't leave it in the shop as its so pretty. I wondered about a shower wrap like this...

bunny - I just read your blog before this post; I had just left you a comment. I am in a similar position, my main problem is that I work full time and feel very guilty about leaving home on a weekend to go back to college, even if it is only for a matter of weeks, I will miss the boys and DH of course. I think I might just read up about what I want to make and wade in and if I make mistakes, well I know lots of good swear wordsHi,
I just had a quick read... I'm a bit of a fan of learning on the Job. I always found things were easier to do as you went along, what seems complicated becomes clear when you actually do it. Most sewing patterns have clear instructions. Start with something easy and progress as you go... I should imagine the sewing lessons are for people with no knowledge at all!
Cheers

Thanks for the advice guys, coming to the same conclusion. I've made loads of items from both commercial patterns and self drafted patterns but I guess its the things I don't know that I can find out for myself as I go. Trouble is I'm a bit of a perfectionist and if I don't get it right first time then I get a bit dispondant! Sometimes easier for someone to show you things.0 -
Thank you bunny, thats a much better idea x0

Thankyou so much for my gifts Kandi, I loved them as did my daughter (see my blog for anyone who wants a nose) Im going to have a think as Id like to post you something in return so dont be surprised if a parcel ends up on your doorstep over the next few weeks...I will be blog stalking you for ideas!
Same here thank you sooo much for mine kandi:D.
Bought some lovely fabric from www.patchfabrics.co.uk and think its worthing mentioning. The P&P is very reasonable as is the fabric prices and the delivery was super quick. Came wrapped in lovely tissue paper. I am uploading a pic of the fabric i ordered on my blog if you want a look.:DV 12500 B 8300 N 1900 Oct £51/£1550 -
Hi Ladies,
I had a go at some Applique this morning, inspired by Kandi and her pouches!
It was easier than I thought, but I did use some HeatnBond to help me! I've blogged about it too!Sarah:D0
