Is it possible to patchwork both sides of a patchwork blanket - the reason I ask is that I don't know if I'll have a 'lining' sheet anywhere - although, I might have an old pair of curtains somewhere that I could sort of chop and shape if that makes sense???
Yes, you can patchwork both sides, but it would be a lot more work and might be difficult to quilt with all the thicknesses of fabric (thicker where the seams join). What a lot of people do is to sew 2 or 3 large bits together to make the backing. I've seen on lots of blogs the backs of quilts where they've done this.
I made a lap quilt for my mum for Christmas and backed it just with a fleece from Asda, cost me £2, and only 2 layers to quilt through!Keep Calm and Carry On Kondoing

Ive been and borrowed many books from the library recently thinking that I would copy the bits i wanted but there was nothing in any of them that I liked at all - all seemed a bit dated IYKWIM.
I am not an expert, but have made curtains, cushions, altered clothes etc so am not a complete beginner, but I would like to make some different bits.
Im planning to sew for pleasure and not out of necessity, I am definately wanting to make some baby blankets like Stardrops made (they are wonderful!) and would like to make some handbags/purses/cushions and things I can give to others.
I have some christmas money left and I would like to get myself a nice book and some fabric with it - can you all tell me what your favourite sewing book is?
Thanks guys xYou can stand there and agonize........

ive just finished making my cushion!!
it was a no zip one and although the overlap on the fastening could have been a couple of cm's bigger (my cushions too fat!) im quite impressed with my self!
unfortunatley i couldnt do the design on it (the bow cushion on the prima site) as the voile i bought was too small, should have really checked the measurements lol!
now, what to do next......0 -
Can I join in too.
I made a start today and made an apron for my friends little girl who is 4 tomorrow. Just a basic apron. I place the fabric on the ironing table and then put one of DS on top and cut round it. I'm very pleased with it, and hoping to make more.
I have so many more thing I want to make, from finishing off a quilted christmas wall hanging, so the person it was originally for, can have it this year!
I also want to make little pvc tote bags, fabric tote bags, baby quilts and so much more.
Plus I spend the other half of my time on the crafting forum, doing lots of crafts and making things too.0 -
I borrowed a couple of books from the library also today, jsut to get some 'how to start' ideas. The internet's fab, but I need the instructions written down in front of me as I'm going along.
I've just finished my 'timmy the sheep' knitted toy that was a Christmas gift, have also cross-stitched my Gran's bookmark that was a Christmas gift for her (but was too fiddly for her fingers), so making a reasonable start to crafting in 2010!0 -
