    stardrops42,
Lovely baby blanket. You are so talented!
Can I ask you where you get your fleece from and has the flanelette that "sort of furry" feel to it?
I make Nappy Cakes and would like to make my own blankets but can't find fleece anywhere. There are no fabric shops at all near me. I would prefer just pastelly colours (flanelette too) so if you could steer me in the right direction, I would be grateful!

ASDA and Tesco both do 'value' fleece for a couple of pounds each ... I'm not sure if they're the saem as stardrops though?

    Hi Moonpenny

What a great idea making your own blankets for nappy cakes as it would definitely make your cakes that bit more special and unique:T
I got the fleece for the pink blanket from Dunelm(sp?) I think it was £4.50 a metre but was reduced a bit in the sale. The pink flanelette is lovely and soft, I bought a double sheet from Dunelm and cut that up as they didn't have it by the metre but it worked out cheaper anyway and I've got loads left:D The pastel green blanket gift set was made from cream fleece and pale green flannelette which I bought from Boyes which is a shop near me, they have other branches but I think they are all "up North". You can shop online with Dunelm but I'm not sure if they will have all the fabric on there:confused: I have seen flannel/fleece online but it usually not cheap. If you would like me to see if they have any of the green/cream left in Boyes and send you some thats no problem:D

Hello all i know there is lots of talk about new machines so just wanted to get some opinions on this one:

    http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4600176/Trail/searchtext%3ESEWING+MACHINE.htm

Do you think it will be ok for a beginner and is it a good price??
What else will i need to start me of??
I was going to wait till i earnt some money from ebay sales but i just keep seeing things i want to try and cant wait any longer so my bday money is going on a new one (was going to put it towards a new carpet -opps - but im sure ill enjoy this a lot more :) )
    thanks for any replys.

I bought this one for myself last week with my christmas money as I always borrow someones machine when I need to make curtains etc. I'm a pretty much a beginner and this is excellent, very simple to use and thread I'm delighted with it. I also bought the carry bag to put it in, which also fits my other bits. Its not too heavy though which I was suprised at and it sews a treat!

Stardrops - I have been looking for something to make with my shiny new sewing machine and now I am planning to steal your idea if you dont mind. I have two pregnant SIL's who are due Feb and March - I will have to get cracking and get some blankets and taggies knocked out (almost said knocked up! :) ).
Thanks for the pics they are fantastic. x

i've never posted a link before, so i hope this works... i can't see how to make the link just one word though. sorry!

this is the sewing bit of their family webpage: http://www.sissonfamily.com/Sewingroom/ and here's the link to their own pattern for a wearable blanket called a Snuglet: http://www.sissonfamily.com/Sewingroom/images/2006projects/thesnuglet.pdf
it seems to make sense, but i've not made one yet. it looks like the arms attach somewhat like if you were making a cardboard cone witches hat for halloween!

    Good Luck!!

    Hi

The blanket is approx 36" x 36" and the taggy is approx 12" x 12" I "borrowed" the idea from the tutorials on this site if you want to take a look http://www.makeforbaby.com/ it's brilliant for making baby stuff. It's not just sewing there is also tutorials for knitting/crochet projects etc:D

I've just found the sewing room - I joined in the 'wanna make a quilt' site, however, still haven't worked out how to start. Am gonna read through this thread slow time for some early tips.

I can't really afford to buy any new materials, only use up scraps (old clothes) that are lying around - do you think this will be okay?

I decided that I would like to make patchwork quits after seeing a friends beautiful hand made ones.

I had no idea were to start so just Googled how to do patchwork quilts and it came up with some very easy help.

I go into charity shops and buy duvet covers and sheets to cut into squares (I got a template off Ebay). I just got a single cover + pillow case for a £1 this morning :)

Now need a sewing machine as Im hand sewing at the mo.

Still learning as I go and love the internet and this thread for info :D
Getting myself sorted 1 day/1thing at a time :) and Love sewing :)
