Hart ~ the bag is fab! Any sign of your new blog yet?
Pootle ~ have you made your bag yet?
Well today I'm finally going to get around to making the altered handles 1 hour bag! (children permitting of course!)
I'm struggling a bit with the new handle idea though, can anyone tell me which way I position the hadle when I sew the lining and bag together? I can picture me sewing it up with the handle going the wrong way lol!
Hi Fruitloop
I wrote out loads of instructions for you but thought it would be easier to put in a tutorial link. See this one. Give me a shout if doesnt make sense and Ill put a step by step on here for you. You can probably ignore most of it until you get to the bit that says....Now place the bag handles where you want them on the right side of the tote. I like to measure in about 3" from either side. Do the same with the handles on the other side of the bag. Pin the handles in place. Now place the bag handles where you want them on the right side of the tote. FRUITLOOP: You must leave an opening in your lining so you can pull the main fabric through once you have stitched round the top of your lining/bag/handle edges. That wont be on the tutorial for the bag you are making. I would also top stitch round top once its all done (I dont think she does that on this tutorial)

I think someone nicked this week :rotfl:
When you put the handles on your bag put them on upside down (end pointing up towards top of bag) then when you have pulled the lining through ( put my lining over my main bag as it was easier for me) they will end up ok with ends inbetween the lining and main bag fabric and as Pootle has said top stitch the top edge after you have pressed the bag as it finishes it off nice (I have done this on my lime and lemon bag). Hope I have explained ok and the link Pootle put in her message is very sim to the one I usedand very useful

Do you think I could get in trouble for throwing my sewing machine out of a top floor window??
This bag Im making is driving me nuts!!! Aint even attempted the zip extension yet (although did almost manage to rotary cut the spare room carpet which I think is an achievement in itself!0 -
Deep breath, step away from the machine, you know you'll regret it tomorrow!!! She's your friend but as you know all us girls have off days!0

Thank you Hart and Pootle.
I've just posted the bag on my blog if anyone wants a look. http://fruit-loopslearningcurve.blogspot.com/2010/04/1-hour-bag-take-2.html
I used the fleece instead of the wadding on this one and it did the job great, also easier to sew in than the wadding;).0 -
Pootle ~ It sounds like its time for a break lol! What sort of bag are you making?0
-
Fruitloop, love your bag!!! That turned out really well!
Im making the one per Harts tutorial link with the zip extension. Had various hiccups /problems including trying to stitch the wadding. What a nightmare that was - Ive never tried it before and it was a disaster to say the least!! Tried new technique with handles which also proved unsuccessful! Almost sliced the carpet with my rotary cutter as the wooden metre stick the guy sold me when I bought my rotary cutter is no good to use with it. Shall get back to it tomorrow and hopefully finish it!!
(Oh and worst news of all, my OH has just announced the football is on tonight! Must retreat to spare room. Grrrrr.)0 -
Has anyone got, or know someone with a Lervia sewing machine?
I have one given to me, still in the box, but I'm having problems with it. Sews beautifully on single thickness cotton but nothing else.
I've tried adjusting stitch length, tension and foot pressure, but I can't get it to work properly. Does anyone have any suggestions?Jack of all trades ... Master of none

Sometimes when I get in a muddle I leave it alone and just go over the instructions and see if I can do it in my head, if that fails I sleep on it and try again another day
We all have off days so stick with it
I gave up with my rotary cutter and brought some good sissors
I will try again on some scraps one day but knowing my luck I will prob cut myself with the rotary cutter ( blood is not a good look for fabric :rotfl:)Getting myself sorted 1 day/1thing at a timeand Love sewing
