Fruit Loop ~ I'm following you too, your blog is lovely.

Ashys ~ Your bag is lovely, the cupcake fabric is great too, where did you get it?
The fabric is indeed from HomeBargins- 1.49 for three tea towls. Ours had these and some funky flowery ones. Bought quite a few packs of the cupcake one- planning on using them to make a panels for a quilt for my niece. and Thankyou!

Dont you just love Homebargins :D

My 1st bag I made was with the pink spotty towels (I got 3 packs of the cupcake ones and 2 of the flower ones) but it turned out so big as I just sewed 2 together and used one cut into strips for the handles but then I still use it (I get loads of shopping in it :rotfl:)

It is great you have joined in with us as we are all learning still and its a great place for help too :D and to show what we have managed to do so far :D

I'm so jealous lol! I bought a couple of packs of the flowery ones but our home bargains didn't seem to have cupcake ones.

Morning all, i am after help, i have never been able to sew more than a button on o/h takes up trousers etc, and i think the reason was my teacher at infants used to have me in tears everytime we did sewing as she always shouted at you if you didnt get it right.
So here i am at 45 and a bit, thinking i should be able to sew something, i have found out a load of old single duvet covers which my dds used untill a few weeks back when we invested in doubles for them. So i am looking for one of you experienced ladies for help, what can i do with them, it has to be really simple, i have access to my mils machine so thats not a issue, and o/h can help me set it up etc.
    Any ideas
    Thanks for reading my plea

Deborah ~ how about making some simple tote bags (see HERE), they are so easy and are all straight lines, it will get you used to sewing again and you will soon be addicted!!
This is one of the first things I made when I started sewing again and as we are trying to phase out plastic carriers you will find a use for it (I use mine daily!).
In fact have a look at the all about you site (it's PRIMA magazine's online magazine) they have lots of ideas for simple makes and it's very straightforward to follow.
Let us know how you get on. x

Ashy, your bags are great! Welcome to the thread.

Debb, you could make a morsebag to begin with which is quite simple. Here is a tutorial.

Also, crayon rolls seem to be quite popular for people just starting out.

Simple cushion cover tutorial here too. This one is really simple and would be good for old duvet covers.

You can always come on here if you get stuck and someone will help you out.

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
Hi ladies. I don't have a sewing machine, but I've been lurking here for a few days anyway. :)
I can't remember who posted a link to sewing tutorials on think-liz? I read through it anyway, and fell in love with these owls from one of the links. I hand-stitched one last night as my best friend loves all things owl-related, and have posted it on my blog if anyone would like to have a look? I've also posted a pic of some felt keyrings that I've made over the last week or two - I thought they might make nice stocking-fillers.
some people grin and bear it, others smile and do it :)

hello everyone, just a quick update.

kandi - i'm sorry to say that the quilt has stalled. mostly because i dont have enough small white buttons and cant decide whether to buy more or use white and seethrough mixed up!? and also because i've started another 'quilt' (it will take years for it to be a quilt, but i've got patience!! and it might become a few cushion covers along the way then get unpicked and sewn together into a larger thing.) sorry i'll stop wafflying and post a pic to explain:
