I love sewing but only do basics as I have 3 small children. My biggest project to date was making 32 superhero capes for my eldest son's 5th birthday party at the end of November, I stupidly lined them all too!
I can't seem to find the bit on the prima website with patterns, can anyone please point me in the right direction? I got a huge bag of fabric remnants from Freecycle before Christmas and plan to make lots of things for gifts this year, especially as my children love home-made items (their sock monkeys I made a year ago are still their favourite)
Hello!:D
I've resurrected my sewing machine too. I've got about 30 lavender hearts to make as favours for my wedding. If I don't manage to master sewing nice curves then they will be lavender pillows instead
Edited to add:

Absolutely stunning, right i now have 12 months in which to try and produce something like this (if only), an angel would look lovely on my nieces bed, Will go and have a look on amazon and book depository for the books you have mentioned. I got the readers digest book in my local charity shop yesterday for £1.50 and that should give me the basics. Still got to start my Cath Kidston bag as well.
These would make great gifts for xmas or any time. I was thinking that you could attach a little poem to them, here is a lovely one I've just found on the net:D
A SPECIAL ANGEL
"This is a very special Angel
as you can plainly see
The reason it's so special is
It's just for you, from me.
Whenever you are lonely
Or even feeling blue
You only have to hold this Angel
To know I think of you.
So keep this Angel with you
As a reminder of the joys we've shared
And remember it's a symbol
Of a loving heart that cares."
Of course you can alter it a bit to suit person depending on age etc;)Feb GC £80 per week (Well I'm gunna try:whistle:)

I'm a textiles teacher so i love to sew but never find any time to sew for myself!! Have recently bought an embellisher to add to my machine collection. So i would love to join this group if thats ok, i'm mainly self taught so my degree covers the whole range of 'design technology'0

My sewing machine was donated to me by my MIL and is quite old and basic but great for learning on. I see a lot come up on Freecycle so might be worth asking on there. My plan is to buy a new one once I'm a bit more practiced (and rich) and know what I want.
I asked for one on Freecycle and surprised (and touched) to be offered one straight away. Won't get hold of it for a while, but I'll be really happy when I do. I have the same plan - learn to sew on a basic machine - invest in a better one when/if I actually know what I'm doing!
Have been putting together a list of projects that I could make as presents for specific people I know, that don't seem too complicated for me to get the hang of before Christmas 2010. There are some great blogs out there, full of inspiration.
I've found myself looking at clothes, sheets etc thinking, "If I cut you up, what could I make with you?"0 -
I made our xmas table runner out of an old pair of curtains I got in a bag of material from freecycle. I have also been known to randomly cut up items of clothing and fabric to make something I have seen!Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

:hello: to all the new people on the thread(more brains to pick:dance:)
My books have arrived! how fast was that! I love Amazon:T
They are both really good but my favourite of the 2 has to be "Sewing Green" by Betz White. I love the Easy Breezy Skirt made from a pillow case, really pretty for the summer and the Beach Bag made from placemats:D I have never had a go at making clothes before so can't wait to have a go at the skirt as it looks quite basic;)
So many projects and so little time!!!Feb GC £80 per week (Well I'm gunna try:whistle:)

Wow, this thread is really taking off!
I came across this blog http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/?p=3808 with loads of links to patterns and projects on different blogs.
I've also made the Buttercup Bag in two different sizes, which is a free pattern on http://madebyrae.blogspot.com/ and two fabric baskets from a tutorial on http://ayumills.blogspot.com/
I also got Sew Pretty Homestyle for Christmas and can often be found sitting stroking the pretty, pretty pictures, imagining where they would all go in my house, rather than actually making any of them. I think it could be an illness...0 -
My Sew Pretty Homestyle arrived today - my girls have already been putting their orders in
S'pose I should be pleased they have confidence in me... more than I do anyway :P
