For those of you thinking about making a quilt from scraps, have a look at all the free patterns an American lady called Bonnie Hunter provides here:
    http://quiltville.com/

I must admit scrap quilts awe me - I have to co-ordinate fabrics and colours, I'm really intimidated by the 'just divide your material into lights, mediums and darks and sew' method. But she has some amazingly beautiful quilts.

There's lots of inspiration there, thank you! My scraps take up almost as much room as my fat quarters and yardage and, as that website says, they still cost as much per metre as the original fabric.

I'm a very fixed person and can't do random at all! I'm determined that this year I will use Bonnie's method of darks, lights and mediums. I aim to pop them all into three carrier bags and just dip my hand in to each one. A piece of fabric will only be discarded if it sits next to another exactly the same.

Well, that's the theory but as I said before - I don't do random!! :D

Lol that made me laugh:rotfl:you sound exactly like me! Everything has to be colour co ordinated or I can't cope:eek::rotfl: If I make a sock monkey it must have co ordinating hat and scarf and the angel I've just made for my bedroom had to match the rest of the decor:D I've Just spent hours trying to get my blog colour co ordinated, I think I could possibly have a problem:think:

Did any of you get the Cath Kidston book Sew, this Christmas ?
I used to love doing hexagonal patchwork, love sewing by hand when I watch TV and there is a really sweet bag in the book, so I have cut my templates out from old envelopes and junk mail (recycling) and I've found some lovely flowery bits and bobs in my stash so I'm going to make the bag and for once keep it for me !!!! I think I might even have some handles lying around somewhere, recycling indeed !!!

  • I bought the book for my non-sewing DD this Christmas and a pretty tin, which I filled with sewing equipment.

There was method in my madness though. I am trying to slow the requests from her as this stops me from earning money from my sewing room, but also I copied many of the ideas from the book first so I can make them too!:D
