Why dont you make simple camisole type tops.
They have wide enough necks to get them over the head, and only a simple dart in the bust?

Darts are quite easy, as long as you make sure that they are both equal lengths.
I will have a look on the web see what I can find.

Elasticated skirts are easy, as they are just one or two pieces of fabric, with either an elasticated band sewn to them, or the top turned over and the elastic threaded through them.
Then also elasticated shorts, and trousers, once you are mastering curved seams.

I am not sure how skilled people are, but once you are confident that you can sew a straight seam, sew round a curve, and then learn to insert Zips. You can practise Zips on your cushions? Or as I did when I was teaching my daughter to sew, we just used two pieces of fabric a few inches longer then the zip, in any fabric and using different coloured threads to see where the stitches were for practise. I must admit it was some years ago now, so no photo's to show you. Perhaps when we sort out the care of my granddaughter, I will have more time, and can do more for you.
    Good luck all.

Oh DGD is fine. Its just that her mother has learning difficulties, and so she cannot live with her anymore. It means that she has been living with me while her Mum was being assessed. Its very sad, but the good news, if you can get good news in these things, is that my eldest daughter is going to take on the care of DGD if Social Services agree. We just had the first meeting about that On Monday. As I am ill, its too much for me to carry on with DGD's care for ever.
    Thanks for asking though.
It just means that I have no energy left to sew at the moment. I am in bed often at 7.30 when she goes, or not long after. Or if she sleeps in the day, I do too!!
Been to physio today, so I am practically unable to move at all!. Luckily she is watching TV at the moment. She is only 2 years old. So still needs lots of attention, lifting etc etc.

Oh you poor thing! I hope it all works out for you. Sounds like you could use a holiday (and deserve one by the sounds of it!!) Truly hope it all works out for you and your family and hope that you feel better soon. (Sorry Mooloo, I didnt realised all this was going on or wouldnt have been so blunt with my question.) xxx

Sunshine, its no worry, I have a thread on here, started the first in jan2008, and another last year, its been a rollercoaster ride since I was diagnosed and the twins got pregnant!. Ah well no worries, its just annoying as I want to sew and create, but have limited abilites with my health, and now limited with the family!. You dont know the half of it! But thats another story, and its already on here somewhere!
    This thread is for sewing....haha.

Claire, the cushion is fantastic, really nice. Something else on the list to make my friends little boy :-)

Sunshine - I think you should take the plunge and start on another clothing item. I am sure you will be great at taking on the project. I'm not a great sewer but I decided to be brave and attempt trousers (Simplicity 2700) and they came out suprisingly ok - well I'm wearing them anyway. The instructions were quite easy, I won't say all as I did sit about pondering on a few points. I just took it slowly - hence taking me 2 wks LOL.

Good luck, let us know what you decide.

Thanks Trixietoes. Never considered trousers TBH as thought they would be really difficult (Ive only been sewing for a month) but maybe should just go for it. I have loads of denim type fabric that my mum got for me (its less thick than jeans but looks like denim if that makes sense!) so was thinking of making something with that maybe. Was thinking of a dress but maybe I should try trousers. Are they the ones from your photo? I like them alot. Think the fabric I have is quite similar to that and really like the shape. Shall hunt down the pattern and have a look. Cheers for that!!

Sunshine thought I had posted this earlier.

How about making some hotwater bottle covers if you haven't already. I would like to start making some for my kids in time for Christmas.

M&S were selling them and bed socks for 20euros here. Or you could make some wheatstone or rice bags the ones you pop in the microwave.

Sunshine - Yes that is the pattern for the trousers I made. I used lightweight denim so it sounds like the same fabric you have. I needed just under 3m. The wider waistband makes them nice and comfy. If you do decide to have a go at that pattern the sizes come up quite big, but better to cut out pieces too big than too small I suppose. I didn't fit mine to me well enough so will try harder next time. xxx
