    Hi everyone,

i have posted in a while as i have been so busy plus had quite a lot of bad news recently - my nan died, my husband has been made redundant and my best friends husband has had a heart attack!!

Kind of took me off trail for a bit but i'm back now:D

Anyway i have made a few things which i'm quite proud of given i'm still a novice sewer:-

A bag for my niece which is made from an old top that my little girl has grown out of:-

and this one is more crafting than sewing but its a memory box for my mum on mothers day:-

I am so sorry to hear about all your bad news, it must be a really tough time for you. Hope things are starting to become a little happier for you xx

Your creations are lovely, I especially like your zebra, I want to make one, he really really is cute and perfect too! Where did you get the instructions from?

    Hi,

I was wondering if you could help me… I caught the Christmas crafting book last year and I’d like to make my friends and family members patchwork cushions this year… with their initial in the middle… I have never quilted before (but last year I managed to make an intricately designed cushion for my nephew so I’m sure that if I follow my nose I will be fine)…

Anyway, I was wondering if you have any advice to share? And if anybody could tell me the cheapest way of acquiring fabric! I want to get started as soon as I can becaus eI will be doing everything by hand.

    Thanks,

    Claire! xxx

Like Mooloo says, visit charity shops! I got a lovely great big fuscia pink fleece blanket for £2 which I am going to use for baby hats and patchworking. I also buy children's/babies' clothes as they are patterned, colourful, bright and have some lovely images to cut out and use. Good luck and make sure you share your makes! xx

Thanks kandipandi and trixie for your kind words. It has been tough but i'm trying to stay positive and sewing is keeping my mind off things (when i get chance between working fulltime and looking after a young family!).

Trixie i used the sock monkey instructions for the zebra and just amended it slightly. Where you would normally cut the monkeys hat from the toe part of the sock i cut his nose but made it longer than the hat would be. This meant that the tail is a bit shorter but that doesn't matter. I cut the other pieces out as i would for a monkey but made the ears more triangular and didn't need the mouth bit that is cut from the heel of one sock. Then i bought a ball of very thick wool for his mane. i cut a piece off and sewed it down the back of his head and neck. then i cut off shorter pieces of wool and stiched them onto the long piece. Then i sewed a ribbon on his bum!:D

it is dead easy to do although i have probably made it sound more complicated as i'm rubbish at describing things:o. There is a link somewhere on one of the threads for sock monkey instructions if you can't find it let me know and i'll try and find it again.

Dizzytina - Sorry to hear about your loss. I hope you are ok.
I think your "makes" are brilliant.

Mooloo - Really like your bag.

Ive hit a brick wall with what to make next. Im not experienced enough to make anything but bags, pouches or cushion covers but I dont really need any more of those!!

I know exactly what you mean! I am the same. I am into beading at the minute and it is winning in the attention stakes, its very addictive.

Im thinking I might try and make clothes rather than more bags. Am almost finished my skirt (another class tonight) so maybe will try another one at home or a dress or something. Just a bit apprehensive doing it without my tutor as it can be very confusing!!

Glad you still enjoying your beading! Have you made anything yet?

    Hi guys,

I thought I'd attach a photograph of the cushion I made for my nephew last Christmas... this is the first sewing project I have completed since I left school! ...Let me know your thoughts!

Dizzytina - OMG what a time you have had I'm so sorry for your loss.

Your makes are brilliant, that bag is inspired and I thought your memory box was beautiful. Making bits and bobs will keep you busy and keep your mind of stuff, hopefully for a little while x

    Mooloo
    - your bag is brill - bet your Mum is delighted with it.

    Thanks,
yes Mum was really pleased with it. I made it out of sample fabric pieces from a curtain shop!
But I am going to try to make her another one, that is reversible, with two colours, one to match her day outfit and one for the evening. Then she just has to turn it inside out! We will see, its the different handles that I think I need. Possibly a chain one afterall. But if it doesnt work she has that one.
When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.

    Awww thanks Sunshine :j

...The design is made out of felt - I found it difficult to pin the letters into place though, so I cheated slightly... I glued everything on with fabric glue (to keep it in place). I then hand sewed around each letter and pictured (because I don't have a sewing machine) and once I'd done that I put the cover in the wash - the fabric glue disappeared and I was left with a nice (straight) sewed on design. I then added little extras using a fabric pen!

I really, really enjoyed making it and my sister loved it (her little boy is only one so I didn't get much of a reaction from him - Lol!).
