This may be a little "off topic", but can I recommend a book.
I bought it about a year ago, and have lusted after many of the projects in it. Yesterday I took the plunge and made a summer top (adapted from the sundress pattern on p144).

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/101-Great-Ways-Sew-Metre/dp/0715337785/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1376120647&sr=8-2&keywords=ways+to+sew+a+metre

There are loads of quick and easy little projects, many of which could be made to sell at stalls and school fetes.
All the projects use just 1 metre of fabric :j

The best thing about the book is the patterns are included and just need cutting out (no copying, or scaling up).

I watched a You Tube video - strip piece patchwork/quilting. They were using 10 inch squares of a paper you could stitch through plus then tear away. Does anyone have ideas for a cheaper way than buying a pack of this paper please?
