Thanks Battleaxe, I've been sent a link form someone on another forum. I was intending to cut the curtains up before i started to make the roman blind, but I can't find them! I think I may have got DH to put them in the loft, he is a little reluctant to go and fetch them !!

Hello, sorry if this has been posted previously but its quite a long thread to go through ( althou I do intend to read it all as I'm sure there are lots of good ideas here). I have just returned to sewing after many years and have been astounded how much patterns now cost. So I would like to make my own. However, pattern paper is also very expensive, as is tracing paper. Does anyone have any alternatives?

I have been using lining paper, the stuff for walls, it works a treat and is more robust. I resent paying the price charged over here for patterns.

I am looking for a pattern for a dress to wear to wear at Black Tie Dinner Dance in October. I nearly felll off my chair at the price of the Vogue patterns. I am going to see if my sister in Texas can get the pattern over there for me. If not I am drafting my own pattern.

At present I am sewing another light dress for summer, I did promise a photo of the one I made with the batik fabric I bought years ago. have washed the dress and have to iron it before taking a photo. So you will be getting two for the price of one.

Oh the first dress is a bit tighter than the second dress, I adjusted the pattern to give me a bit more looseness in the heat.

I buy milti pattern books from Burda and My Image. Then I use rolls of grease proof paper for my patterns. Just Sellotape pieces together if I need wider pieces.
Been altering jeans into shorts and a bag today. Can be seen on my Facebook and Instagram

    Ladies
go searching online, i've ended up with a massive!!!! pattern inventory by downloading from peoples blogs, burda style, and other websites i've found by searching 'free patterns' it's amazing what you can find & most give you a print at home option (on to A4 paper) or you can print it out as such via the settings in adobe.
even if you can't quite find what you are looking for there should be something you come across you can tweak

Battleaxe, is there any particular style you are looking for to make for your black tie do?

I bought a huge roll of tracing paper off amazon it cost me £15 for 25mtrs, 1mtr wide which when compared to the sheets you can buy was a lot cheaper. I then buy the patterns trace what I need and sell them on

I'm also a member of sew direct it costs £15 a year for web membership and all patterns are half price and they do member sales where it basically works out to buy one get 2 free. I bought quite a selection at the last sale and paid no more than £2.50 for any of them. I've been a member for 3mths and saved the membership fee at least 4 times over.
