The design looks so simple, I have downloaded it and am going to draft it out for myself Thank you. This top is just the thing for the weather we are enjoying.

I found myself with free time on Saturday so I had a go with the top and it's done! It took an afternoon. That included drafting the pattern. Now I have it, I will need less time next time. And I think I will be making this top in different fabric..

I did find that the pattern was rather large though..I went for the medium one and then I had to take an inch off later.

  • Hi All

Have just got a fancy new sewing machine, but very new to sewing.

Read all about all your wonderful projects and got inspired.

Made some spare bedroom curtains from a duvet and some cushion covers, but would now like to make some lined curtains for the lounge !

Seen some curtains in a sale (£10) they are made of canvas and are a natural colour. Could I use these curtains as a lining ? Material even for lining seems quite expensive and I'm worried I might make a mess of it, so trying to keep cost down as much as possible.

Any hints and tips gratefully received.

It depends how heavy the fabric is of the curtain. You wouldn't want it to impair the draping qualities of your main fabric.

Dunhelm has double width lining for about £6.49 m which isn't too bad and it saves so many joins.

I work in soft furnishing so know how much people can spend on curtains and blinds. One tip is Ebay and search for all the well known curtain fabric brands (eg Prestigious or Harlequin etc) and you can often find seconds and end of rolls at really good prices.

  • Thanks medsdemon, that was very helpful. I hadn't even considered how they would hang  I have a lot to learn LOL

I paid £5 m for some lining recently at a local shop so will investigate
    Dunelme as well as EBAY.

Part of my problem is that I don't know what material to use for things, and a certain level of knowledge (or common sense !!!) is assumed on instructions. I wouldn't have had a clue about the names to look for.

    Thanks again
