Hello everyone, I'm new to this thread, my aim this year was to use my sewing machine more, so far so good, I have made my first quilt and my first pair of curtains, both of which I'm very proud of. I hope you don't mind me bending you ear!
I would like to make this for my dd

Using some material that I brought a while ago for protecting a side in the bathroom, the instructions say to use oilcloth but in the comments after it links to a website that says oilcloth is dangerous for children. I'm unsure what the material I have is called so I have posted some pictures if anyone could help me with it name I would really appreciate it, the front is a shiney plastic and the back is ever so slightly fluffy
Thanks to anyone that can help

it certainly looks like a "sort" of oil cloth, and unless you are sure its food grade i wouldnt use it, unless you still intent to wrap/protect its contents
as an aside, its a pain to sew, even with a proper foot i need to put some masking tape on the bottom of mine to ensure it slides through easily0 -
Yep I know what you've got can't recall the exact name at the mo, its basically faux oil cloth a lot cheaper & more patterns to choose from, I've got a large piece in beige with white spot as a table protector. Don't see that there would be any issues with what you want yo make out of it toxicity wise.- Mortgage: 1st one down, 2nd also busted

i found you have to relax and go at a good speed, if you go to slow your stitches can just sew ontop of each other.
dont be afraid try to work in a methodical order i do a section at a time.0 -

I still cant do free motion quilting, made a right bodge of my latest quilt. Seems my machine doesnt like the backwards movement meaning I would just have to do straight stitching or find a pattern I can go forwards on all the time0

Well my fmq was a disaster definitely need more practice lol. However ive played around with twin needles too something ive never done before and im impressed so ive decided to quilt by sewing to each side of the seams.I'm trying so hard to be thrifty, but it doesn't come naturally.
