Hi everyone. My lovely daughter took me to Ikea yesterday and the stuff there is wonderful. I also bought some children's fabric cheaply as I wanted to make a little quilt and think I will begin later. To be honest I feel very nervous at attempting to make something as I am new to sewing. You have all made such lovely things and well done to you all.Do a little kindness every day.;)0

well Tilda's Sew Pretty Homestyle has FINALLY come into the library (though the system messed up and i could have got it last week), and i really like the look of it.
i know it's been translated from a eurpean language (dutch?), but there is one error that is bugging the hell out of me! those patchwork blankets are PATCHWORK or a QUILT or a cover or a throw or a wallhanging, or one of a dozen things.... but THEY ARE NOT TAPESTRYS!!! Not in any sense of the word!!
if it's pieced together it's a Patchwork, if it's quilted it's a Quilt, if it's both it's a Patchwork Quilt!!!It has lovely embroidery on it so it contains Embroidery or Needlepoint, it also used Applique...
But it does not have one fabric (or just warph or weft) that is then embroidered or woven through with tread or wool to essentially create a new layer of woven fabric attached but on top of the existing one
Maybe this is why a friend delcaired my "tapestry was lovely" when i was working on a needlepoint design in an emboridery hoop. I'll check out her shelves for a Tilda book! :rotfl:
sorry, rant over. but words and their meanings are important and anyway, i get confused too easily for books to be confusing me too!! :rotfl:Relax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23. hmm some advice required please -
1. have now got two tilda books - they are gorgeous and one on order.... but query is do you all use the linens she specifies or are there any other fabrics you could use - ? nervos about starting one of the projects (as would like to use up some of my fabric hoard)
2. Do you think I could whip up some PJs out of some old satin sheets?
please remeber I am still learning to sew (am a dab hand at embroidery etc just struggling with pattern cutting out at the moment)0 -
Sunshine12 wrote: »Oooo Beachhut, those fabrics are lovely!!! Do you normally buy a metre minimum or do you always know how much you need before you buy it? I was thinking of just getting some fabric so that I have a stock of it for when inspiration hits me but not sure if thats a bad idea....
Sunshine12 - I know - aren't they just divine?:happyhear I'm in love. I'm a shocker for ordering fabric and then just stroking it periodically and gazing at it from a distance as I can't bear to commit to cutting it up! I normally buy only 1/4m to 1/2m from places like Fabric Inspirations as I tend to use the patterned stuff for little projects, or I put patches of my faves on bags. Share your pics once you've started
Juby & density - welcome!
Stardrops - huge congratulations - hope Oliver and mummy are doing well :T "A baby is such a nice way to start a new person"
23rdspiral - how you doing after your rant?It is annoying when these books talk nonsense! I love the sound of your rainbow arm/wristwarmers - and can't believe they're still going 8 years on :j
Margaret - am so jealous of your ikea trip - what fabrics did you get? My nearest ikea is about 2 to 3 hours away which means we hardly ever go but their fabric looks amazing online so next time we go I am stocking up. Good luck with the quily - don't feel nervous - my Quick Unpick has become my new best friend as it has saved many of my projects from the binLet us know how you do
Okay, think I'm all caught up - keep the updates coming and well done on all the lovely projects :T0 -

I was in Ikea this morning and got some fabric as want to make some stuff for my darling niece and newphew. Got this and this (got fabric in this but for some reason comes up as a duvet cover on their website!) Got these teatowels as well that I thought I could do something with them rather than dry dishes!
Now need to stop spending money and start sewing!!:smileyhea0 -

um, sorry about that everyone. whilst i am genuinely annoyed at the use of the word Tapestry, that was rather overkill wasn't it?
i can only say that i'm sorry, and that if flipping Nissan dealership were doing their job properly, i wouldnt be so flippin grumpy today! why can't cars be more like sewing machines? then i could just sort the problem out myself and not rely on a silly man who doesn't listen to me about what's wrong with it and therefore can't fix the car even if he wanted to!
oops. sorry again.i'll go away now and leave you in peace. i'll try to make a Tilda sleep mask and hide from the world...
